Hi MRP, asking as a wife. I like the general rationality of this sub, so hoping to get some different perspectives.

I married my college sweetheart last year. My net-worth is north of 2m while my husband’s minimal at the time of marriage. I intend to keep large assets separated until we have kid (maybe 5+ years later), and he has expressed understanding of the decision. However whenever I brought up the idea of Post-nuptial, my husband would be reluctant, saying we don’t need lawyer and indicating that I need to trust him more.

Recently we are considering buying a home, with me paying 70% and him financing 30%. So I liquidated some pre-marital investment and transferred cash to my husband’s account so he can get pre-approval. In the past 6 months as we were house-hunting, I noticed my husband ‘joking’ more about buying homes that’s outside our initial budget, and ‘jokingly’ asking me to sell more asset to buy a nicer home for us. I was uncomfortable with these kind of jokes, and when I pointed this out to him, he would just say he was kidding.

There’s a possibility that we will end up waiting another year before buying. In that case, I’d like to pull the cash back to my account for full control. However, I’m not sure how to do it without inflicting some awkward conversations.

There are other incidents that suggest my husband might be insecure because of the financial imbalance in our relationship. (Or it could be me being too sensitive). MRP, any tactics to approach this issue for marriage harmony? Thanks.
