Hey guys, like the title states I was injured about 8 months ago when some dumb cunt rear ended me going 50+ mph (I was at a dead stop). I was diagnosed with a herniated bulging disk which results in pretty bad sciatic pain. My job was high on the alpha spectrum as I had to "perform" every night as a Teppanyaki Chef. I tried to go back to work after a couple days at home but it was a no go. Tried again a month later and had to call it quits. This was the worst timing because my fiance was pregnant with our first child. Throughout the entire ordeal she stayed and supported us (and still is). I know, crazy right?
This has created a rift between us, and I can see that her respect for me has almost completely vanished. I used to be pretty jacked at 6' 200, but have since gained almost 30 lbs since the collision. I've been hitting the gym 6x a week to rehab myself and to get back into shape. I'm doing the best I can by keeping the house clean, taking care of the munchkin, and cooking dinner, but this position as house bitch hasn't done me any favors. We still have sex about 1-2 times a week but it's pretty much starfish sex and bj's are non-existent. Hell, we don't even sleep in the same bed anymore.
I tried to make the most out of the situation by going back to school through worker retraining. Here is where my dilemma lies. I have the option of getting an Associate degree in IT. This program has a good outlook since the technical college is well respected. I am located in the Northwest so tech jobs are everywhere. I would be able to graduate in 1.5 years and start earning a modest salary, about 40-45k starting or maybe more if I'm able to land an admin job (still less than her income). I would then attend an accredited online university for my BS in IT to further my career. This option appeals to me because I can get back to supporting my family ASAP, while also having time to pursue my hobbies. I consider this the short term choice.
Now my main choice is this one: Enroll in my technical colleges Programming and Web Development until my training benefits run out in 6 months. This would allow me to get my feet wet with programming and be able to knock out some Gen Ed classes. After this I would transfer to a normal community college with the goal of getting into the University of Washington's Computer Science major. This is probably the only way I'll be able to earn more than her and become the main breadwinner.
I don't know how I feel about not having a real income for 4 years, even though the reward will be worth it in the end. We aren't really struggling for money since my fiance makes a lot, but I have a lot of guilt since I'm supposed to be the man and own my shit. It gets hard trying to take charge and make financial decisions since I'm not contributing to anything. Her mother also owns her own business and helps support us too... Her mom has also offered to give me a job at her business that would work around my school schedule. I wouldn't be making as much, but it's still a source of income. Would taking her offer be a bad idea? I already feel like a bitch for not working for so long, but I feel like accepting someone else's help would emasculate me even further.
Everyone is telling me to go for the second route, my fiance included. She keeps telling me it would make her really happy if I were to accept her mom's offer to work there (I'm pretty sure she just wants me to bring home any sort of income). The problem is that I would see my fiance almost every day at work, and not have much time for anything else. I am afraid that this will make me too available. I mean I know she is already resentful of me as it is for not working, and I don't want to make it worse. I would try to get an internship or co-op as soon as I could to get out of this situation.
Sorry if my thoughts are all over the place, it's late and I haven't gotten much sleep with a newborn. I would appreciate your guys' advice on whether or not its a good idea to invest in the 4 years for a Computer Science degree, or go for the Associate in IT and enter the workforce ASAP.
UPDATE
Reread the stickies on MRP and found my way again. I am not going to bury my ambitions, and will own my shit. My fiance has no problems supporting her alpha as long as he stays ALPHA. Being an indecisive fat fuck is NOT alpha. Newbies read the stickies. Feel free to reply if you still want to.
