Will you raise sons & daughters differently?

I feel like I will not. I was raised in a household with very different standards for myself and my younger brother. I resented my parents & my brother for it.

My daughter will know how to start a fire, set up a tent, read a map, defend herself, mow a lawn.

If we decide to have future children & end up with a boy, he will know how to cook a meal, press a shirt, properly set a table.

Both sexes would be held to the same curfews. Same standards of academic performance. Same punishments for breaking rules. We will save for college equally for daughters and sons.

I want self-reliant children who respect themselves.

I'll explain to them that, in order to be as successful as possible in attracting a partner, men and women should act differently. Of course I'll include more specifics than that.

Beyond that I'll raise them fairly similar. In today's society, where most people spend some time living on their own before selling down with a partner, I believe everyone should know all basic domestic skills, regardless of which gender does them more in a relationship.

I'll also encourage my children to explore any hobbies and skills they want to, and teach them a lot of general knowledge etc.

The main reason why I don't want to force any way of being on my children is because I was also raised that way. My parents made an effort to keep everything I learned as broad as possible, and I've found that to be very useful later in life.

It's nice to be feminine, but sometimes a situation calls for an assertive (more masculine) approach, so I think it's important for children to learn to be able to act both ways. And my at least basic knowledge of a lot of typically male interests has actually helped me compete with other women. Being very feminine, but being able to talk about things that are only interesting to most men, gave me a huge advantage.

And most of all, I got to choose what I wanted to do and be like thanks to how I was raised, and I think my children should too. I am the way I am because I was given a choice, and I just don't think I have the right to force my own choice on any children I may have in the future. They should have the freedom to choose too, even if they would choose something I personally don't agree with.

Yes, we will. I strongly believe in traditional gender roles, I will teach my daughter(s) all necessary domestic skills like cooking and cleaning and how to respect and care for a man.

My husband will be our son's role model and teach him how to be a real man, win in life and how to protect and provide for a woman, I will not interfere with that but I will make sure he doesn't have to be around all the time for child raising, that's my job.

They will also have different tasks at home but both of them will learn from the bible and we will use the appropriate bible verses to show them why exactly they are different and what God expects of each gender.

But what you have to do is to make sure both feel privileged and glad to be male or female, don't make being a girl look like a bad thing for your daugther, encourage her to embrace her femininity and feel proud to be a girl! :)

I'm sorry your parents didn't do that right and you grew up to resent them, but that's never a reason to do things completely different.

I have two young boys (4 and 1). The older knows how to put away his clothes and how to help with household chores (dishes, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, etc.). He helps me cook and bake bread from scratch. I will do the same with our youngest.

Regardless of gender roles everyone should know how to maintain a clean home, cook a delicious meal, change a tire, and keep track of finances. I refuse to send my children into the world without those skills.

That being said, my husband will teach our boys how to be confident leaders and providers. If we have a daughter I will show her to be strong in her own right, as well as the importance of being flexible and willing to commit to a strong, good hearted man.

My children will have the same curfews and expectations in education, extracurriculars, and behavior. It’s the mentality and perspective that need to be given equal but separate focus, if that makes sense.

I have a clear picture of all this in my mind, but I’m struggling to put it into words accurately.
