There are multiple reasons dinner is not recommended as a first date.

1 - It sets up a precedent of you as a potential provider, so you're already starting from a beta weighted position.

2 - It forces you to spend an extended amount of time with her, which both is tough if you need to bail and shows you don't have much else going on.

3 - It places manners, rituals, and physical objects between you and the woman you should be physically close to. Try not to sit across the table, for example, as your own table can then cockblock your kino. Sit diagonally or on the same bench.

4 - Dinner is a boring trope of a date. Goes against the "Don't be unattractive" rule.

5 - If you're eating, you're not talking. Which is the point of a date. Same reason movies are shitty first dates. You're limiting game.

Op, these are guidelines. If you're going for a bite away from home anyway, and you're not paying, sure, take her. Just be aware of those common pitfalls.
