Hey there guys, just wanted to vent/get advice from all of you out there.

I was recently dumped by my girlfriend (20 yrs old) of 6 months for her ex, the guy she had been dating before me. Everything was great in the beginning, she was incredibly attracted to me and everything was stellar. She gave me the "what are we" talk in the car one night and I played it cool, not even really wanting to ask her to be my girlfriend for a while. I delayed it but eventually did and things were good. Eventually though she seemed a bit more distant and wanted to "focus on herself" for a bit out of nowhere. This led to me getting more infatuated with her and not wanting her to leave, as she was the only girl I was having sex with. Now I'm at the point, looking back where I can truly say this was a oneitis fueled by a scarcity mindset. Trying my best not to, but I can't help but look at her instagram and what she's commenting/pics she posts, even though it only hurts me more seeing them together.

I did some very beta things around this time that I think really pushed her away and back into his arms, even going so far as to write her a letter and telling her that I loved her. While she clearly loved me before as well, this is the first time I had told her so. She said it back for a few days but then texted me "we need to talk". She came over and started crying, telling me that she doesn't feel the same way and that it sucks because I've been so good to her. At this point, she definitely had been talking with her ex, I see now she had even commented on one of his Instagram posts about 3 weeks before this point. Makes me feel like shit knowing there's a chance they may have been hanging out already and she was just planning on letting me go. It's crazy to see how girls emotions and feelings for you can change like a light switch and how they never think they're doing anything wrong.

What pisses me off the most is that her ex, who she now seems to have fallen in love with again, is some 5'7 pretty boy rapper, and I know he's pretty beta too. He's even written songs about her and their breakup. The only thing I can see he has going for him is that he's rich, like she's been over at his $2 million dollar house rich. Other than this, I can't help but think that I am a better partner for her in every other way. We are both still young (20) and she's still immature, so I can see why she is unable to see this.

Since this, I have been hitting the gym like an animal 6 days a week and getting the proper calories I need to gain weight. Already made some progress but I'm still 6'2 and only 151lbs, so it's going to take some time. Trying to focus on removing my beta tendencies that seem to have driven her away at the end and make sure I don't make the mistakes again. Anything else I can do at this point other than try and improve myself?

I'm trying to go no contact, where I will only reach out if she texts me, but she did before and I made it clear I did not want to be friends - I have not messaged her since (about a week). I know I should probably try to forget about her completely and block her on everything, but we currently live in the same building, so it's a bit weird trying to flat out ignore her. I know I'm still young and shouldn't be thinking long term, but it's hard to move on to a new girl altogether when she was so much of what I was looking for. It's funny because when I was with her I remember thinking, "yeah this is great, but I'm not sure if I want her to be my girlfriend" but now I'm at the other end of the spectrum where I wish I could have her back. Rejection breeds obsession I suppose.

Thanks for the responses/advice, it means a lot. I hope that others who may be in or have been in a similar situation can benefit from this.

TLDR: Girlfriend dumped me for her ex because I was acting too beta. Trying to recover.
