In a lot of India, sex selective abortion became really common in some regions, but it's not common in every region. As a result girls from places like West Bengal are trafficked into places like Haryana due to the demand for brides. It's also made sexual harassment a lot worse, especially in regions where sex selection was common. When I go visit my family in Bangalore or Hyderabad I encounter sexual harassment (staring, some catcalls) but it's a lot worse in places like Dehli or Agra. There I would get inappropriately touched, and witnessed and experienced grown adult men openly hitting on 10-14 year old girls (stuff like this happens everywhere but it's a hell of a lot more frequent in Northwestern India.)

But the fact that there are significantly more women than men will mean that a lot of men will end up single for life. It also means that men will have to do more to attract women. In China brideprice has gone up. This may also cause dowry to stop being common in India or at least make it worth less, which will in turn cause sex selective abortion to happen less.

What’s interesting though is that there are what’s called “leftover” women in china. Unmarried women in the late 20s - 30s. How are there leftover women when there is a surplus of men?
