I think I’m an intense person. Let me try to define "intensity" by way of my own personality. I mean that I tend to focus on one topic (or person) totally and constantly. I gravitate toward topics about which one can obsess and think deeply (theories about sex, politics, and math) rather than topics which are “light” and good for small talk (weather, celebrity gossip). I am the last to suggest ending any conversation, especially if it is about a topic I enjoy.

I think women sometimes viewed this as being too invested / anxiously attached. My attention is either "on" or "off." One woman assumed I was in love with her, when I'm not sure it was the case (although I did like her a lot.) It has been claimed that women are “like cats” in that they respond better when you deal lightly with them rather than being intensely interested. Another aspect of being intense is that I have trouble multitasking; it is hard to talk, think, and read my audience simultaneously. (I focus on the thinking to the exclusion of reading.) I can be oblivious. It is easier for me to talk to one person at a time.

My question:

Are you “intense” in this way, and is it a common problem for people who end up finding PUA / RP? What does RP (or PUA, or Myers-Briggs) say about intensity?
