Incels don't believe in themselves, and working on your personality/social skills takes some time and effort. It's easier to believe there is no hope because then you don't have to try. Incels just give themselves excuses to give up.

That would be meaningless given the amount of relationships which are fake(i.e. a result of woman settling on a man she wouldn't give a second glance otherwise because of lack of other options/monogamy)

I think most dudes who hav normal social/dating lives can attest that when they were younger and more awkward, it was harder making friends and getting on with girls.

My hippy parents moved around a lot, so I was constantly being yanked out of and thrust into new social situations. At first I acted mostly like a loner, hung to the outsides, got in a lot of fights after school and generally waged a one-man war on every school I got tossed into. I was too young to be an ‘incel’ (that word didn’t exist when I was a kid anyway), but I existed on probably the same social level.

But it’s boring on the outside. I started watching how people around me communicated and I started copying the behaviors that seems to produce the results I wanted. I put effort in learning how to “not be that guy”. And it had a substantial effect on my life.

The problem is that it takes years. You sometimes practice these good social habits for years before you’re able to make it natural and actually succeed at controlling yourself, and thus the environment around you. And until you hit that point, you’re gonna have to just deal with people seeing you as awkward and just suck it up. The primary feature that all incels seem to have in common is an inability for one reason or another to practice social skills, and instead blame the world for expecting social skills.

How are these guys even supposed to "improve" their personality or or "social skills" (seems to be quite the buzzphrase around here with little meaning)? Like is there some approved guide for this? How could they possibly take any of the advice on forums full of self-admitted losers and "failed with women" dudes seriously?

It's easier to assume your problems are external and that you are a victim, than to assume responsibility for the problem and put the effort in to a solution. I.e. the problem is caused by uncontrollable sources and not controllable ones. The existence of mentalcels prove that they are aware that personality factors into things.

Are there ex incel groups? I know many that have ascended and still lurk occasionally. But most once they ascend choose to detach from the communities. Or maybe its they ascend because they detach.
