Depends on the kind of "funny".

Some incels have a great sense of humour, but that doesn't necessarily translate into popularity. They are introverted and don't play entertainers. They are quiet most of the time around people but then drop some killer line out of the blue that leaves everybody speechless because it's so witty. It's great but seems to be the kind of humour that doesn't make you popular.

I often think that just being cheerful and good-tempered is enough to be perceived as funny in a good way. You don't have to be especially witty or clever to pull this off.

It's crucial for me. If the guy makes me laugh, I feel better and more relaxed around him. I date someone if I think it will be a pleasant experience being around him.

Humor is one of several things that can impress a woman, but a guy doesn't need to be funny if he has other qualities that can impress a woman.

I dunno. I find humor overrated. First time I got laid, I haven't even bothered to make a girl in question laugh even once and I don't think I did. Didn't change the result. Haven't put much effort into it since.

It might help as icebreaker, but that's about it.
