It’s actually a myth that back in the olden days, teenage girls were commonly married off to old men or that teen girls were the most desirable brides. The only time this was close to true was within nobility. Common folk married in their 20s to age appropriate partners for the most part.

To be fair, even though the average life was 35 years, that's because half the population would die before the age of five. So it was pretty normal after 5 to live to old age.
