I end up quite frequently giving BP advice to friends because they don't want advice, they want comfort and validation and to know that they should be "loved for who they are." If I thought they wanted actual help and not just a chance to vent then I'd sprinkle a little RPW over them.

The truth hurts.

My sister used to be extremely nervous talking to guys (as did I) and I told her what worked for me: basically you just gotta pretend / talk yourself into believing that you don't care about him. That was the only way that I personally could work myself up to saying more than 2 words to a guy I liked. I'm not sure how it worked for her specifically at the time but she's very comfortable with guys now.

It kind of reminds me of red pill, with "don't put the pussy on a pedestal" and I get the sense that a lot of their advice is kind of similar, like saying, it's easier to talk to girls if you don't care about them?

But I know mine doesn't count as red pill because it was advice for a girl.

Going by your username I would have thought that you'd suggest throwing back a couple of shots when you're nervous about talking to someone new. 😉

tbh that was another strategy I developed for talking to people after the first time I drank: pretend you're drunk.

The placebo effect, genius, I'm all about that no hangover life.

It would have been RP advice had you given it to your brother.

[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Did you read the last sentence?

Funny how this advice worked for me though too, no? I've never really thought about before. It's almost as if the basic formula of [less caring = more power] works for everyone, and rp just dresses it up in eye-catching headlines and buzzwords.

Of course, men are needy too. Arguably even more considering that they can't rely on having another interested female in reach when one date goes south.

[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Do you think all the belittling talk of women on trp is a way of taking that same simple advice to an extreme? Like, I had to totally convince myself, "he's not that great, you don't need him, you don't care if he rejects you blah blah blah" to be able to talk to a boy. Do new red pillers need do this in extremes with regards to how they see all women (they're all bad, all disposable, whatever) in order to have relationships with them? That's definitely what I'm starting to think.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

It's part of the deconditioning after a lifetime of having been told how awesome and great women are.

[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

But that deconditioning's purpose is to allow more emotional detachment during interactions, right? That's what it was for me.

It's so weird because I spent so much of my life trying to prove I could keep up with men because I had always been told I wasn't as good as them. I was angry about it too for a long time. I definitely missed out on the "women are wonderful" memo.

Ps. Is my advice only not red pill because red pill is only advice for men? Is there some reason rp wouldn't see that as proper action for a girl? Or they just wouldn't care I guess.

Nope, there is rp advice for women as well. However "play mind games" isn't one of them. Apart from the fact that it's assumed from the onset that women don't need additional instructions when it comes to that because they collectively have covered that base fairly well, it's also assumed that the sort of guy you actually want wouldn't respond to them and instead next you, only leaving the needy pushovers.

[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I definitely don't think my strategy was playing mind games...

Isn't that all rp does though lol

Is that what you were saying?

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I definitely don't think my strategy was playing mind games...

If you try to make a guy want you by removing yourself from his presence, you are playing "mind games" in a way.

Isn't that all rp does though lol

Not all, but giving men the ammunition to compete in mind games with women (who are far better at it by nature) is definitely a part of it.

Sure. Constantly when I was BP myself, though I doubt that really counts. But still!

Most memorable case: a friend of mine who was in a rough spot with his GF (he had a habit of putting her too much on a pedestal) and when another girl hit on him, and he was seriously contemplating to do both. Apart from petty jealousy on my part, I also considered it inconceivable how he could do such a shitty thing, and therefore convinced him that the very least he owed to his girlfriend was telling her.

How did it turn out? Well, he told her that he wasn't so sure anymore and who hit on him, she broke down and he realized that he still loved her :aaaw: (or he was just sufficiently guilt-tripped) and ultimately stayed with her. The sex they had immediately after that must have been awesome, but afterwards he fell back into his "you're too good to me"-routine. Which, combined with her resentment that hasn't just magically gone away, compelled her a few months later to break up with him after having secured a branch she could swing to.

Other than that, particularly after not being a bloop anymore? No, not really.

[–]ThirdEyeSqueegeed2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are you still friends with him? How's he doing now?

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup.

Well, how does he now... let's just say "better", but only after doing worse before (his last two relationships before the current one have been with exceedingly shitty women). The girl he dates now is a former CC-rider, though, which he isn't too happy with, but it beats the two who came before.

On female friends ,that aren't lesbians, I give the typical ego stroking BP soundbites that make them feel good since they don't really want advice but rather to talk and vent. In their case not much changed even when I actually attempted to help them. Because they didn't want a solution. Like that one where i advised here to be less dependent on her crush lest he runs away. She didn't listen and he is gone.

On male friends it is a mix with a tendency to red, no punches pulled. Tough love. In their case, there has been actual improvement. Like that friend who started working out and went from fat neckbeard loser to decent guy with a girlfriend.

[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In their case, there has been actual improvement.

None of your female friends have problems that could be fixed with improving? Or just need that advice in general? Or would you just feel weird saying it to them?

[–]FirionDarklightFree from Orthodoxies2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can be a blunt motherfucker. When the few female friends that I have kept close come to me, they aren't looking for a blunt motherfucker. They just want someone to listen. Sure, I will give some advice to them here and there, phrased in a way that I won't sound like an arrogant asshole, but at the end of the day and 90% of the time they just "hamster"(to quote TRP) it and go ahead to do whatever else but that. I mean, you can only advice them so much, before you stop being that insistent and just start being there for them when you know they will fuck it up again. And yes, some of their problems could be solved with improving. But improving is hard, requires perseverance and a strong will to stick to it till the end. Most people don't have that.

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A friend of mine kept texting cute shit to a girl he wanted to date and wasn't getting results. I took his phone for the day and texted pretending to be him.

All it took was 24 hours of radio silence and about 5 texts and they had a date setup. He fucked it up on the date presumably because he never heard from her again. I can't do everything for the guy.

Edit: didn't read the question properly. Oops

[–]alreadyredschoolRational egoism < Toxic idealism1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never give advice to other people INR unless they ask, no matter how miserable they are. The most I said was when I told my brother about a year after his break up to just get a girl, he doesn't need a bestfriend/model/girlfriend/philosophe, well now he has a bestfriend/GF/philosophe.

[–]wub12341 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I try not to advise people unless they ask because there are all kinds of problems with advice, not least that it is very rarely put into practice.

[–]NalkaNalkayou call it virtue, I call it cowardice0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have given both actually. More red advice than blue though since the average guy more commonly needs to be more assertive than less. On the other hand I have given some friends blue pill advice to tone it down a bit since they were too far to the asshole side.

I have probably given out more support than actual advice tbh.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I have told a male friend of mine to take care of his appearance and stop being clingy and desperate , does that count ?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Kinda, TRP agrees with it, but as a Blooper I've never heard the advice be less attractive and clingy it will get you all the girls.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Well, the advice is usually more "attractiveness is not that important" (with an implied "women who care about that are shallow) and "girls totally love it when guy treat them like the best thing since sliced bread" (with an implied "that's what real menTM do").

[–]wub12343 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well, the advice is usually more "attractiveness is not that important"

I profoundly disagree with this statement. I honestly don't know how people can believe this.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I honestly don't know how people can believe this.

I don't even think it's a conscious lie.

I'd wager it's from women who ran a few times into really handsome guys who turned out to be assholes, or did have great boyfriends who haven't been literal models, and then feel compelled to state that of course "looks aren't that important" (bonus points for appearing less shallow).

The sad thing is that it obfuscates the fact that women will as readily swoon over a guy for his looks as men will over attractive women, it's just the threshold that's higher.

[–]wub12345 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my opinion, there are four reasons women say that they're not attracted to looks, or don't emphasise it.

  1. Societal expectation; it makes you sound shallow;
  2. They take it for granted that we all know that looks are important;
  3. They don't understand themselves what attracts them to men because they're not self-aware enough;
  4. They can't face reality.

We're all attracted to looks, primarily attracted to looks. I honestly don't think there's that much variation between the extent to which women and men are attracted to looks, I just believe that it's a bit more socially acceptable for men to say it (but even then few men would ever say publicly that looks are of importance above all else because it makes you look completely shallow).

[–]OfSpock3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's from a lifetime of women being shamed into 'giving him a chance', not, 'being shallow' etc.

[–]exit_sandmanstill not the MGTOW sandman FFS2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually have no trouble believing that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think we have very different social groups. There's a reason most guys in rom coms are more attractive than average (for their age group). I wouldn't base a relationship on it, but if there is no attraction, then there is no relationship (excluding sugar babies and other outliers).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing exclusively TRP but some mainstream stuff that TRP agrees with, get a hobby, a job, actually talk to women, don't be a doormat and get fit. I used a few connections to get the CV in the door and prepped him for the interview, but the rest was all him. It went well, he's not exactly fit, but he's not fat anymore and he seems pretty happy with his gf. Also figure out what the fuck you want.

[–]HalfysRedditIndependent thinker0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah, if I don't feel comfortable saying what I want to say (for example, because it will be taken badly by the audience) I just don't say shit.
