I will be speaking purely about coeducational sports in my comment.

During high school I played all sports that the school offered; Football, Baseball, Tennis, and Track & Field.

There were no female players in football. Our school held almost every football record in the state. As such, we were a highly competitive team - and our training was more reflective of military boot camp than a high school sports team. We were as competitive as you could get during practice. There were no distractions. Everyone had one thing in mind - be the best you could possibly be every second of practice. We beat the shit out of each other on the field and hugged in the locker room after a win.

There were no female players in baseball. They had their softball league. Our baseball team was not as good as our football team, but the practices & attitudes were the exact same. Be the best you can be every second you are on the field.

Tennis was co-ed. It was split evenly, 50/50 male/female. I brought the same attitude that I had learned from other sports to Tennis, be the best you can be at all times - no excuses. I noticed that something was off at practices - I just couldn't figure out what. I quickly learned, soon afterwards, that there's a good reason sports are split by gender in high school. I was paired with multiple females for doubles, and at one point was paired with the "best female player" in our division. I found out what was "off" at our first tournament. The "best female player" showed up in plain clothes, without her equipment, claiming that she was cramping, and just "wanted to watch", forcing me to find a last-minute partner for doubles whom I had never practiced with before. The coaches told her it was okay that she had done this and catered to her every need. During practices the females gossiped with each other, took un-scheduled breaks, and used the sport as a social tool. I remember one time in particular during a singles scrimmage, I returned a volley extremely hard to a females' backhand, which she missed (that was the point) resulting in a game - 15 score for the round. She said nothing but just walked off the court. My male teammates ran up to praise me for a good hit. My female teammates looked at me as if I had just cut her hand off. The next day during class a white knight wanted to fight me for "bullying a girl on the court" and most of the females of the school started harassing me. All because I won a match in a scrimmage. Our tennis team was average in the district, and the teams in the district with mostly-male players always advanced to regionals/state.

Track & Field was not co-ed. Same story here as football & baseball.

Co-ed sports are for recreation, not competition.

Ooh! I think I'm uniquely equipped to answer this since I'm still in high school. I don't think coed gym is making guys wimpy. We're as testosterone-filled and competitive as ever. However, the girls in gym class don't have to do anything. They just stand there and let the guys do all the work, which does reinforce the idea that girls never have to make an effort because guys will do everything for them.

Is this coeducational now? Ours was not, not 100% sure why, perhaps because they did no want us to look at their ass all the time. But I still managed to end up being a nerdy "neckbeard" :) Fully 20% of the guys in our class was the D&D player type who never gets laid.

We didn't really have sports either, did not have room for that just one gym hall and an ugly concrete yard squeezed between the school and neighboring urban buildings. Just phys-ed which also included some amount of playing stuff like basketball.

But now at 37 I do some super manly sports like boxing and kick-boxing (recreational/cardio as of yet, not yet ready to try sparring) and I can tell you the presence of women makes no difference. I think it can even be positive, some guys are probably pushing themselves harder because when the trainer yells 20 push-ups & 20 sit-ups and a girl can do and he not he feels ashamed.

Of course partner practice and sparring is done within your own gender.

As a high schooler I liked co-ed. Especially the swimming portion. xD Got to talk to people I knew both male and female on the track. So it wasn't some emasculating experience. Then again I could imagine not everyone got some chick to mess with their junk during PE, so the experience probably wasn't beneficial for everybody.

Looking back as an adult though, I do admit that I got more competitive and active (things one should be doing during PE)
when it was just the guys and I playing football, basketball or lifting weights. I'd have to support that if my goal is to get students to perform better.

Women have a hard time working together.

Agree, I think the best outcomes I've seen during group projects have been men working together, or 1 man and the rest women. Something about all women makes for a higher chance of mess.

I think so.

It doesn't even necessarily need to be co-ed sports, but the feminine rhetoric has taken over sports, where it is no longer about good old fashioned competition, but 'having fun'.

To be a man is to compete. To be a man is to also know how to accept defeat, and overcome it.

Boys are being indoctrinated so early on that no one 'loses'. People lose all the fucking time. No wonder they're all weak man-children.

Nope. Pairing boys and girls together in sports lowers the skill level. I was in a coeducational basketball league when I was younger. I already had no competition when I played, and the girls just made it worse. Gym class doesn't matter so who cares.
