They (especially the pretty ones) know the spell they cast on men and they exploit this as much as they can.

That's only because some men let themselves be exploited.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wouldn't say it's "only because some men..". Wouldn't you say women have a part to play, too?

[–]CyraleaRedPill Vanguard1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If women frequently offered you blowjobs with the unspoken hope that you'd take notice of them later and ask them out, you'd probably be tempted to act on that too.

Women having orbiters is a fairly rational decision.

[–]LeGrandDiableBlancParochial Altruist2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Here's a better question: Why don't you ever see a hot guy with a string of ugly female orbiters that drive him around, buy him things, and do other errands with him while he complains about the other women in his life?

I'm sure they exist, but I have never met one, and there is NO way that they are anywhere near as common as a female with male orbiters.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No one is chiming in on this but you raise an excellent point.

Females with male orbiters is acceptable to everyone involved. The guys think they have a shot at getting with the girl. The girl gets attention from the guys. It unravels when the guy realizes the girl has no intention of getting with them. The girls have a lot of incentive to string along said guy and not be 100% clear with them about this. Some girls are clear, but some guys are too stupid to read the signs.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Because women benefit more from having beta male friends (read: orbiters) more than men benefit from having female friends (I'm talking actual "we hang out at things other than parties" friends, very rare are the legendary cool female friends who hook you up with their hot friends). Females don't interact with men unless they are attracted to them or unless they are serving them in some other way (does their homework, free drugs, etc. <-- all of which I have witnessed, so I know it is a thing) Also, men don't generally hang around women they don't want to fuck. Men know this and I think women subconsciously do as well but of course their hamster is beast mode when it comes to stuff like this.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Females don't interact with men unless they are attracted to them or unless they are serving them in some other way

lolwut. It's funny how TRP will simultaneously claim that women aren't really into sex and that women will only interact with people they want to fuck.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"Or unless they are serving them in some other way"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I serve my female acquaintances friendship, does that count?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most definitely.

A good friend has a lot of value. Some people make better friends than others. If someone isn't a good friend to me I don't spend time with them. Simple. Yes, I have nothing but great friends and my life is pretty awesome.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you see how you misinterpreted the argument being made? Keeping your error in mind, can you counter his assertion?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I mean, in a sense we all only hang out with people if we get something out of it. Companionship, humor, sympathy, to share experiences with, to vent, to trade favors, to meet their friends, etc.

If you're talking about material possessions though, I'm not sure how to counter that. He's basically asserting "All women are whores, you can either pay in attractiveness or by giving me stuff". It's just a blanket statement about a whole gender which even TRP admits is not always the case.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean, in a sense we all only hang out with people if we get something out of it.

BINGO. We agree here.

It's just a blanket statement about a whole gender which even TRP admits is not always the case.

Also called a generalization. Don't get too hung up on the idea that he's saying EVERY SINGLE WOMAN. He's not. He's saying a strong majority of women.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah, the classic TRP "you can't take our statements literally!" fallback.

He said that women will only hang out with a man if they're attracted to him, or if the guy is doing something like giving them drugs or homework. Both of you are completely missing the possibility that maybe a guy and a chick hang out because, you know, they get along well. They have similar interests. They have a long history together. Or they share some unique characteristic.

Sex is such a small part of my life and I can't understand why you guys assume that everyone bases their entire relationships based on "giney tingles" and manipulation. If a man can get along fine with a man without sex, a woman can be friends with another woman without sex, then why can't a man and a woman be fine in a platonic relationship? I've had plenty of them.

[–]shitonmycock 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

They can only be friends in that hetero boy/girl way. A friend who is a girl will never be a friend who is a guy, because a girl will never be a guy. Unless she gets a sex change.

So.... there you go. Stop expecting women to be men, and you'll do fine.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A friend who is a girl will never be a friend who is a guy, because a girl will never be a guy.

I mean, you're technically right but what's the point in making this distinction? My short friends will never be tall friends, my mexican friends will never be white friends, and my gay friends will never be straight friends. It doesn't mean that they're less valid or anything.

[–]shitonmycock 1 points1 points1 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It means you have to take into account who they are as human beings.

Which, I find to be a major key that PUA, Seddit, and Red Pill all lack when it comes to hetero male & female dynamics. Just treat people like human beings and you'll go a whole lot further - whether you want to be "just friends" or sexually intimate.

This is also the thing that Blue Pill and Feminism seems unable to describe but keeps alluding to.

I also think this is why Red Pillers come up short on being true alphas. They are trying to get there via mimicry, whereas the "true" alphas from their high school years probably always had some element of recognizing human beings as human beings, e.g., "the bad boy with the good heart."

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have browsed the redpill and I don't see anything like what you're talking about. If anything "treating people like people" is exactly what TRP advocates. If a person sucks, stop hanging with them. Even if they're a pretty girl that you were hoping to fuck.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Why is there such a huge disconnect between how men and women perceive the issue?

is there really such a huge difference? i've seen (non-RP) men already state that they have female friends tons of times (and vice versa), and from what i've seen posted there isn't any crazy scrutiny applied to those relationships; they're just friends. it really seems like more of a disconnect between how RP and non-RP people view it, because RP followers don't believe men and women are capable of having genuine friendships.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

You're dead wrong. Do a google search.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T_lh5fR4DMA

If you think men and women think alike on this issue, you're either drinking too much of your koolaid or you don't get out much.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (13 children) | Copy Link

is that video (of the opinion of just a few people i don't know or care about) supposed to change my mind? i never said that there aren't male/female friendships that don't cross into something more, just that there are also friendships that don't and they deserve to be acknowledged. if you googled something opposite of your point of view, i'm sure you'd find just as many results to the contrary of what you believe. saying, 'you're wrong,' and then proceeding to make some flip remark about kool-aid or how much i get out (for no reason) did absolutely nothing to either debate or answer my question. if you don't have anything actually useful to contribute, though, then i guess there's nothing more to talk about.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

No.

You questioned the validity of my assertion that there is a huge disconnect between the sexes on this issue. I backed up my assertion with a video.

I think you don't like being proven wrong. It's perfectly normal, but it's something a person should grow out of. Don't take this discussion so personal.

proceeding to be an asshole for no reason did absolutely nothing to either debate or answer my question

BULLSHIT. I made a retort to your counter-argument.

so if you don't have anything actually useful to contribute i'd prefer that you refrain from responding further.

This is where I tell you to politely fuck off. You want to debate, then debate. Let's not play the "aww you offended me by being an asshole" game. Let the validity and strength of your arguments carry the day.

LET'S KEEP THE PERSONAL ATTACKS TO A MINIMUM. THEY DON'T ADD TO THE DISCUSSION.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

i was genuinely asking a question, and you essentially replied to say i was full of shit, so i responded in kind. if you're going to address people in that tone, don't be surprised when they respond the same way.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Stop derailing.

Moving on...

You were wrong. There is a difference between the way the genders perceive this issue. Do you have anything to add or do you simply concede you were wrong on that point?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

you provided one video showing a handful of people interviewed. so, no. not good enough. too bad. i'm not really interested in continuing this conversation anymore simply based on your tone and the way you've chosen to speak to me, either.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This stuff is common sense for anyone with experience in the world, but if you insist.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/men-and-women-cant-be-just-friends/

That took about 30 seconds. How many sources will you ignore?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The whole premise of the study is looking at cross-sex friendships in the first place. In approximately 12% of the friendships that they surveyed they found at least one person who was attracted to the other.. The summary that you only presumably read pointed out that men were 3 times as likely to think that the romance was mutual. But in the vast majority of cases, women and men can be platonic friends. Thanks for proving his point! Bummer that you didn't actually read the study before trying to use it on your side.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i'm not really interested in continuing this conversation anymore simply based on your tone and the way you've chosen to speak to me

Oh lord. Please.

You're just getting butthurt because I'm proving you wrong.

I think everyone can see that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i was going to make my previous comment my last one, but this latest comment of yours was low even for a member of TRP.

i'm not butthurt at being proven wrong, because you've proven nothing. i'm just frustrated that i gave trying to have an actual conversation on here another shot, and was proven wrong again when i hoped that it wouldn't just be met with a rude response from some TRP member. your very first reply to me included a comment that was personally directed at me at the very end of it and pretty much every other response you've had since has had some sort of jab at me, so i don't really want to hear you talk about how personal attacks are a problem. this is exactly why i don't typically participate in these threads; this is what it inevitably ends up being, regardless of whether or not the initial comment was a genuine attempt at discussion. oh well; goodbye.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whatever. Spare me your spiel.

You can take your hurt feelings and go home. I don't care. In my mind, you got proven wrong and got butthurt, that's all. I see it happen all the time.

To be honest, I don't really expect too many people to up and admit "Yep, I was wrong lol. You totally convinced me." Most people will cling to their ideas to some degree in the face of evidence to the contrary.

However, the lengths you're going to are pretty extreme. All to avoid owning up to being wrong. Again though, it's only different in extent, not in intent.

If this were a live debate you would be crushed. You can't just say, "That's rude. I'm done." I mean you can, but it just means you lose. Which you are doing either way, so I suppose this method saves the most face for you.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I backed up my assertion with a video.

You backed up your assertion with an edited Youtube video. If that's valid proof, then here's irrefutable evidence that women have it harder than men

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm not going to counter your assertion (made w your Youtube video) because that's not what we're discussing here.

Do you have a counter-argument for me? Do you assert that men and women see this issue the same way? If so, then please provide some evidence to back up that view.

I get it. You're doing the "I don't accept your proof" thing. It's not a substitute for making assertions and backing them up, which you have failed to do thus far.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you have a counter-argument for me? If so, then please provide some evidence to back up that view.

Yes, my argument is that men and women can be friends. In order to prove my point, I'll speak in a language you can understand: letting a Youtube speak for me.

In case that doesn't work let me try another method that you might understand, a field report.

Field Report, 2/20/2015

I currently have a couple female friends. Sex has never been an issue. I also have several male friends that I've never tried to fuck.

It's not a substitute for making assertions and backing them up, which you have failed to do thus far.

WHat, no proof?! I've linked 2 Youtube videos so far! That's twice of all the proof you've provided in this entire thread!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

my argument is that men and women can be friends.

Generally, this is not the case, but as an exception to the rule, men and women can indeed be friends. I don't disagree with you in that respect. No counter argument from me. And you didn't even need to post "proof" since I'm not contending your point.

I did notice that you dodged my assertion that men and women see the issue differently.

If we accept that men and women see the issue differently (feel free to dispute this and provide proof of your claim), the question becomes: why do men and women see the issue differently?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I've never heard any person - man or woman - say, "I don't really hang out with guys. I just get along better with women."

I have. Mostly women and people in the LGBT crowd. If you spend most your time in the "manosphere" you wouldn't see those people much.

why are these views so prevalent? Is there some truth to them?

80% of Americans believe in angels and only 61% believe in global warming. Do angels have more validity than climate change?

I think women are fully aware that they use men. They won't ever admit it, though, because it makes them look like really awful people

According to this TRPer, all human interaction is a power struggle. Now that's not a view I hold but I'm sure it exists. I'm absolutely sure that some women use men, just like I'm positive that some men only pretend to be friends with women to get in their pants. I think both sides of that are sad and limiting. There's value to being friends with people that have different backgrounds and characteristics than you.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I have. Mostly women and people in the LGBT crowd.

An exception. My point still stands.

80% of Americans believe in angels

Doesn't answer the questions of 1) why these views are so prevalent and 2) why is there a big disconnect between men and women's opinions on the issue.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

An exception.

People who say "I only hang out with guys" are also an exception.

why these views are so prevalent

People are dumb.

why is there a big disconnect between men and women's opinions on the issue.

I don't think there is. In my larger social group there's a relatively equal mixture of men and women. Some people are dating but for the most part everyone is just friends. This whole "gender war" thing is mostly fought on the internet.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People who say "I only hang out with guys" are also an exception.

You're trying really hard to sidestep the crux of the argument, but I'm not going to let you.

There are infinitely more people that only hang out with only guys compared to people that only hang out with only girls. I mean shit, you had to dig into a outlier community to even find people like this (the LGBT community). Within that small community there is a tiny minority of people that don't hang with guys. Why do you think this is the case? Why is the other view (people that don't hang with women) so much more prevalent?

People are dumb.

As a default answer for everything you don't fully comprehend, this is dumb. There are reasons. Maybe you don't care to understand the reasons, but I don't think simplifying things to the extent of "I don't understand = everyone else is dumb" is helpful or wise.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are infinitely more people that only hang out with only guys compared to people that only hang out with only girls.

No. You have experienced more people that only hang out with guys than people that only hang out with girls. Because you're a guy and presumably hang out in "male spaces". I have 3 sisters and a lot of LGBT friends. It's more common than you think.

How would you even be aware of female only spaces? By definition, it would only be filled with people outside of your demographic.

I don't think simplifying things to the extent of "I don't understand = everyone else is dumb" is helpful or wise.

Maybe not but I really don't give a shit about the opinions of others. And I definitely don't give their opinions any credence just because a lot of people happen to think the same thing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People use each other. Men use men and women use women and women and men use each other in different ways.

I've never heard any person - man or woman - say, "I don't really hang out with guys. I just get along better with women."

Well now you have.

Post Titles need to be as neutral as possible:

"Women use their friends, especially their male friends."

This is your opinion, and you're more than welcome to express it in the body of your post, but we ask that titles be neutral.

"Why is there such a disparity between men and women on the question, "Can men and women be just friends?" "

This title would be fine, but you'll need to re-post your question and add a flair.

[–]OfSpock0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guys who are trying to hit on women will generally not accept reciprocal favours when offered in order not to appear weak. It's more often guys trying to insert sex into a relationship where there is no chance that ruin the friendship.
