How do you guys go to a bar or a part and maintain that self control?

If you want to stop being up an alcoholic, you are going to have to drop the party lifestyle as well.

At least that was how it worked with me. Going to bars and parties and staying sober is just not that fun. I enjoy a party with friends occasionally, but if it's strangers, forget about it. It's impossible to get in the same state of mind while being sober, so you always feel awkward. It's not that fun.

If you try to be the sober guy and keep going out, most likely you will fall off the wagon before too long. At least that's what happened to me a few times. The rationalizations start coming, and you think that maybe now, since you've been able to stay sober a while, you have developed that elusive self control...you'll always end up back where you started.

So for me, ultimately I just gave up partying completely and figured out how to have my fun in other ways. It's a big shift though.

Where do you go to meet girls? The first two things that come to mind for a fuck and chuck is a party or a bar. I am a one trick pony for this reason. I have made no progress on opening in a library.

Where do you go to meet girls?

Online dating mostly. It's not ideal, but yea, not drinking really does cut your options. Coffee shops and random day game spots could also work.

Quitting alcohol has changed my approach, so that I am not really going for "fuck and chucks" anymore. Most of the girls who are into casual sex are also into drinking/partying, so obviously I don't want that in my life.

These days I am all about finding a quality woman, and making it a regular thing, at least over the medium term. This has definitely slowed down my rate of new lays, but I think it has made me more attractive to women who are solid LTR prospects -- high quality women don't want a sketchy cad.

Have you ever tried kava? it's a different feeling but still a sedative. You won't want to mix it with alcohol. Also, no hangover.

[–]NeoreactionSafe1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Totally agree.

I've switched to Kava Kava for relaxation rather than beer.

The only time I'll drink is at bars or festivals. (never at home, never alone)

Try Herbal Island 10:1 powder... one teaspoon in the evening and you are relaxed and you wake up feeling fantastic.

Kava Kava also doesn't make you mentally impaired, so it avoids the stupidity.

Also, I find that I'm less likely to snack with Kava Kava, so it's less calories.

  • IMPORTANT: Never mix Kava Kava with alcohol. They both put a strain on your liver and together can cause problems. Seriously... you just can't. But Kava Kava gives the relaxation of alcohol so you don't care.

I have the same problem. Huge tolerance. Extreme lucidity after heroic amounts of alcohol.

A couple of tricks I use.

1) I know that if I start drinking I'm not going to stop so delay your first drink.

2) One soda, water, etc for every drink with alcohol.

3) One drink per hour.

4) People socially speak then drink. This can lead to lots of drinking in a group conversation/bar setting. The behavior can actually condition you to drink more. Don't hold a bottle/cup while you are talking.

[–]4benny2lava0[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just thought about it, i always take a sip when the other person is talking.

I always equate that the alcohol is literally poisoning my system. I have very substantial goals that I want to achieve through fitness and the alcohol only delays or sets me back from these goals. That's just my thing though. You have to find what works for you.

If you really need help to cut the habit, try these:

  1. Don't ever drink by yourself.

  2. Only drink as much as the person you're drinking with, especially if it's a woman, you can't hook up with girls/be on your game if you're fucking wasted. Plus you just look like a dolt who can't control himself (not alpha)

  3. Drink water after every drink

  4. Don't focus your night on the alcohol, focus it on the connections you'll make with people. If you're only goal is to get white-girl wasted, then you have no business hooking up with anyone of value.

[–]dabrah10 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

One trick you can use is to order a tonic water, and sit on that for a couple hours. It looks like your drinking a gin and tonic, so people around you won't pressure you to drink. You can do the same thing at parties too, fill a red cup with water and it looks like vodka.

Other than that, like another poster said you can try to drink 1 drink an hour, and alternate with water. This doesnt always work though.

Last thing i'll say- you might want to consider staying away from bars and parties altogether. It sounds like your pretty far into alcoholism, now might be a good time to cut out alcohol completely. Find girls at work, the gym, etc, and go to AA meetings. Some people really can't just have one drink, you might be one of them.

I probably am. I go hard with everything. Im drinking, im drinking a bottle. Im driving Im not driving, im flying. Im smoking, dont stop til the bag is done. New project at work, hit it hard until the sun goes down.

I cant moderate shit. Even when I go to the gym I want to spend like two hours a day and do fucking everything.

[–]dabrah10 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You have an addictive personality. Nothing wrong with that, you just need to get "addicted" to positive things, like working out, self improvement, game etc. Focus that intense energy towards things that are gonna help you get ahead in life.

[–]4benny2lava0[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You have no idea. I have been channeling that into the reasons we are all here. addiction makes a good work ethic so long as it gives you that high, you wont ever stop. Eventually it stops giving you that high and you want something more. Power, seduction, social intelligence, that is my new heroin.

[–]1Zanford0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People can tell when you're wasted, dude. EVERYONE thinks they hold their liquor better than they do, and that it's 'not that noticeable when they are drunk, they're just more outgoing and assertive.'

[–]4benny2lava0[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are a few that can. When I was getting out of hand in the summer, I made myself a rule that I have to open a set before I was allowed to have a drink. It became real easy real fast to open enough sets to get me shit housed.

Alcoholism is caused by nutritional deficiencies. Evaluate every single vitamin and mineral that is required for optimum health and determine if you are adequately satisfying this through food alone. If you are not, you need to supplement.

Head on over to bodybuilding.com they have forums, supplement reviews from real members and some of the best nutritional advice you'll get on the interwebs.

I come from a family of alcoholics and I have made serious strides towards not quitting drinking, but the ultimate goal which is simply to: Drink in moderation.

I have yo-yo'ed but now I am getting into the groove of drinking 3 servings max (social situation or not) every 2 days. Sometimes I just don't drink at all because I don't feel 110% the next day. I am very sensitive to my body and can feel the difference between 80% and 100%. Most people cannot.

Maybe some one else can comment on mary jane, I was never a big fan of it but it can't be good for your muscle gains.

I think I am going to make a spin off post here because there seems to be a lot of incorrect thinking on how to approach and handle alcoholism.

[–]4benny2lava0[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Its something about alcohol. I cannot moderate...yet. (its funny how I cannot is a blue pill phrase yet when I add my willingness to stop altogether it sounds like an addict phrase.

What is interesting is I used to do copious amounts of drugs... I spent four years doing drugs more days than not. However it was never the same ones, I wanted to try them all and I came close. I wont say I have tried them all however I have tried everything I can get my hands on (hundreds of drugs) at least three times. First dose is threshold, second dose is standard, and third is maximum.

Then I tried heroin, like pot, acid, molly, coke, and a few others I kept doing them then slowly it became the only drug I was doing. A while down the line I have slipped up here and there, eventually I chose to use it a few times.

The thing is I can hang out with my junkie friends and not need or a lot of times even want to shoot up.

Drug test coming up, better cut down on the smoking.

Cant afford it? no coke for me tonight.

It is not hard. Now alcohol, I just cant say no to. Its kinda like Jennifer Lawrence saying she wants to have my babies. I dont even want kids.

[–]TekkomanKingz0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Check out Erowid.org - Once you read a couple hundred of the stories you'll never want to touch anything stronger than alcohol or weed. And my theory is many alcoholics have underlying depression or anxiety due to nutritional deficiency. The catch-22 is this. Alcohol depletes B vitamins, masks the effects of B-vitamin deficiency temporarily and often people with B vitamin deficiency have anxiety or depression as a symptom. Get it? So you are consuming alcohol to mask the symptoms of B vitamin deficiency. But the alcohol actually only makes the B vitamin deficiency worse.

Lack of B-vitamins is the primary culprit but that's not to say it's your only deficiency.

[–]4benny2lava0[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the drugs are not really an issue, (believe me i can talk all night about the less than stellar nights I have had from taking the wrong shit together.

I just cant wrap my head around this because there are sooo many more fun things to do than drink and im only talking about drugs right now. Sober activities, there are even more fun options yet I just keep on drinking.
