Women => Republican, Men => Democrat, SMP => Economy

"Republicans" represent the population of America that has power (or believes they have power) and prefer to keep it. They want to preserve the status quo and gaslight or shame anyone who feels the power balance in the economy is unequal. What you can't succeed in the economy? Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and work harder! Nevermind the fact that their fortunate position in the economy is often something they are born into, while many "Democrats" are forced to painstakingly work their way towards having somewhat satisfactory economic value. The "Democrats" who eventually do succeed in the economy often adopt the mindset of "Republicans": "Well I was able to succeed, so why can't you?". The "Democrats" who can't succeed feel cheated by the economy and want systematic changes to help them (at it's worst, this can result in a complete lack of responsibility, victim complex, and wanting unrealistic radical changes).

Although many of the truly economically powerful "Republicans" haven't actually earned their power, it doesn't matter. They believe they did and that's all that matters. Or they believe that they deserve it by virtue of who they are. Unrealistic as it may be, the "Republican" mindset leads to a happier attitude towards the economy (ignorance is bliss) even for those who aren't succeeding in it.

Here's the catch: "Democrats" and "Republicans" essentially flipped positions of power during the last century. "Democrats" used to have it much easier in the economy and actually held power over the "Republicans". "Republicans" had fewer rights and less opportunities for success and happiness. The same gaslighting that is now done by "Republicans" used to be done by the "Democrats" who held power over them.

Neither "Republicans" or "Democrats" actually care about you, they just want power in the economy. If you can help them maintain their power or help campaign against those that currently have it, than you serve as a useful asset. But at the end of the day you're just a pawn and there's no point in getting invested in a group that will turn against you when it becomes convenient.

But go vote anyways, because it's better to feel like you have some power in the economy even if it is just an illusion.

TLDR; the American Dream (supported by Republicans) is to the economy what the blue pill (supported by women) is to the SMV.
