I'd say selfies should never be provocative and should exist in about a 1/10 ratio. So for every 10 photos of the book you're reading or your cat or that dinner with the family, you get one selfie.

In general, I'd say less social media is more. Social media, as a whole, often comes off as validation seeking if you're especially active, particularly to men. There's "keeping in touch" levels, where you post a few times a week, but beyond that, I wouldn't suggest posting much.

Now, I'm about to get downvoted by all of the wannabe influencers, I'm sure. Personally, deleting social media did not take any good out of my life. People who care keep in touch and I have a lot more emotional energy and better attention to put towards my actual life. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I think you're asking the wrong question. A woman can be quite confident and not post provocative pictures of herself. So I would say something like this is more about validation, with a healthy dose of narcissism.

One thing to remember about provocative pictures, nudes, etc, is that once something go out on the internet, it's there forever. Even if you delete it, someone could have copied it and repost it.

As soon as you're asking that question it's too far. If I encounter someone's social media and they have a lot of selfies or pictures of just themselves, I question it.

Imo social media at its worst is when one becomes so self-absorbed they are blinded to how they come across and change themselves to fit how they want to be 'seen.' At it's best - a way to connect with people and share your experiences. I opt for the latter.

Could be pride, could be a way to market herself or make money, could be naivity, could be a slut, could be the (family) culture she was brought up in that values this, could be for attention, could be exhibionism as a fetish, could be your idea of provocative is entirely different from hers, could be she wants to give the guys a boost out of kindness (srsly), etc.

No way to tell. Why do you wanna judge? Not your business unless it's you, and then introspection would work better than asking us.

I don’t think it’s really for anyone to say. I don’t make it my place to judge, and I find more people would live peacefully if they were to just mind their business. There could be a million reasons why people post selfies. I would consider myself active on IG and by that I mean I use it constantly to check in on my favorite brands to keep up with new products, reviews and (most importantly to me hehe) discounts.

As for the content of my account? My last post was a month ago with a couple of photos of the scenery I witnessed on vacation and the post before that is from 6 months prior. I have less than 25 posts on my IG and a good 35% of those are selfies, mainly from the shoulder up. I don’t dress in any way worth showing off lol or else that might occasionally get posted too. I text selfies to my boyfriend constantly because he likes getting them. He has no social media and doesn’t give a damn what I post on mine because he knows I don’t think too deep into it and customize my feeds to reflect my interests (mainly food, makeup, dogs and friends).

A person’s social media account is for whatever purpose they want it to serve and mines is not to judge, mines is to follow or not follow, should I so choose. :)
