My colleague at work is marrying a woman close to his age (around 40) and she has a daughter too... And you can tell he's in love... I tried to nudge him and he said something in the lines of "if this doesn't work out then my life has no meaning, and nothing else matters"... I tried my best, but he'll have to fall on his own.

He's a good developer... I don't know why he thinks too little of himself... It's a mystery.

My mom had to deal a lot with this type of men and still has to. But sorry, mate, she won't be your girlfriend. You have to know her husband and my father died 10 years ago and since he was her dream man/soul mate/how ever you wanna call it, who gave her everything she could have dreamed of in a relationship, she wasn't able to get back into dating. And knowing her I can tell you that she's afraid that it would feel like cheating on her husband and that I'll think badly about her and be like "How dare you replacing my beloved father (who was the most important person in my life at this stage of my life) with another man? Didn't all these amazing years and things you had together anything to you?". But I always told her that it's her life and she's free to do whatever would make her happy and if it's finding a new man, I'm alright with it. And I mean it.

Interesting thing: she's almost 60 and most of the men desiring her are around 40-45. I always think to myself "Dude. That's not too late to find yourself a younger woman who would be interested in becoming your girlfriend/wife. Just accept that my fathers death scared her too deeply."

so? my boss has 2 step children, and they both love him and adore him. If you're the kind of dad that only care about passing on his genes, then you're the dead beat dad that those kid's biological father is. Those kids will pass on the beliefs and values of their stepdad more then their biological dad. Also by this logic then adopted kids, which is what i want to do, is stupid. I would rather have my children love me and pass on my beliefs and traditions then my genes, this is coming from a genetics major.
