Japan's societal pressure is cranked up to 11 on a scale of 10, and many men are deciding to just opt-out of society. These men are called hikikomori.

What nobody ever seems to cover is why this is happening. What is causing men to feel so ashamed or angry at society that they would prefer not participating? Where is this pressure stemming from? Why are they completely opting out and why are so many doing it?

What do you guys think of this phenomenon? I believe that these are logical individuals who realized society is the one that is wrong and since they cannot change it, they opted out. A sort of peaceful protest where they become ghosts and society loses out on potential productive/smart members of society because nobody wants to admit that the system they participate in is outdated and that they are wrong.
