I broke up with my ex about a month ago. She claimed to have been raped on campus. The police came to me and asked if I could check my communications with her. Turns out, at the time of the alleged rape, we were on the phone with each other. They also checked her dorm security camera and she didn't leave the apartment until much later in the day.

She had nothing to gain from this. Can someone explain why she might have done this?

I just feel lucky the allegation wasn't about me. But it makes me feel unsafe to ever date again.
