My soon to be ex believes I'm an abusive by being silent. I don't have much to say often. Half the time I do say anything she counters it, tell me I'm not listening and I'm interrupting her. My ex said early on that her ex was abusive. I didn't really question it at the time.

As time went on, it came out that she had in fact cheated on him in a year long affair! He found out, she wanted to stay and it was after that he became "controlling" and "demanding" aka "abusive", according to her.

Simply, he couldn't trust her because of what she did. Plain and simple.

I began to ask more about the "abuse". He never hit her nor treated her poorly. He simply was insecure about her since her affair and if she went somewhere, he wanted clear communication, boundaries and expectations.

Seemed reasonable to me. But she classes it as "abuse" because he called her out.

I've had one girlfriend. One 'facebook official' girlfriend. 15 months. More like a social experiment for myself than an actual relationship. Got bored fighting with her and walked out. Wasn't for me. Last time I ran into some of her friends, I was informed about how I cheated on her. That's the story she has spun to every next boyfriend too. I never cheated on her and even yelled at her face "If I wanted to sleep with someone else, I'd break up with you" whenever I got accused.

To dispel another myth, more women did not want to sleep with me after I started 'dating' someone. No change whatsoever. It did not provoke any jealousy among female friends. Nothing really changed after I broke up with her either. Ironically, all my female friends that I was accused of sleeping with - ARE STILL FRIENDS WITH ME - while the ex is long gone, states away with another dude.

I've never wanted to date anyone but am still glad I put myself through the experience. The comfort in the relationship is in the habitual behavior, much like someone who still reports to a boring/tedious/redundant job everyday.

I had a co-worker at my last job who got married to another co-worker. First he told her she couldn’t wear short shorts or skirts because “guys will eye you up” (she had no boobs or butt but in his mind she was a model). People told her it was controlling, she said it was “cute” that he didn’t want other guys looking at her.

Then he started drinking more. Like a 30 pack a day. Again, everyone told her it wasn’t normal, instead she made excuses (“He works hard. He deserves it”).

Evidently now it’s so bad he doesn’t let her leave the house unless they’re going out together. Both of her best friends told me they haven’t spoken to her in almost a year, but that even though she’s not happy, she thinks marriage counseling will work over a divorce. Kicker is she’s told her friends that she “never imagined it could end up like this”. Yes darling it was painfully obvious. I wish her no ill will but damn, women will make excuses if the guy is even slightly above her in looks.
