CLassic bullshit.

I was a director of IT in a division of a multi national in 2001, had 26 people under me, and the VP I reported to quit.

They hired a woman with ZERO IT EXPERIENCE, but thought her "management style" would simply overcome her lack of knowledge.

In her first meeting with IT managers, we laid out our current infrastructure, 5 year road, map, current project list, deliverables due that quarter, and staffing issues. She was completely lost, couldn't even understand the terminiology, and you could see deer in her headlights.

You can't be a doctor in the ER, or work as an engineer without training, how in hell does anyone think they can run IT with zero concepts, knowledge or education??

She lasted two weeks, and quit.

No one can effectively run an IT department without real experience in the trenches, and working your way up. There is no other way

Save any documentation/correspondence referencing this. When things inevitably go to pieces and higher management comes to inquire why, pass that buck back to them. Diversity is great, right up until it interferes with profits and/or customer/investor relations.

Get your whole team to look for employment elsewhere. If you can collectively build a startup, do it. Don't settle for this shit. It's meritocracy or nothing, and if they want quota hires, fine, they can have nothing but quota hires and go broke.

IT guy here. Unfortunately, this is the trend with tech companies...hire women despite their lack of skills. This was a decision by non-tech management, I'm sure.

It's a pity. If there's one industry where you cannot bullshit your way in without being immediately exposed, it's tech. And this person is going to conduct performance reviews \fitness reports?

If not, go lame and ask for guidance from HR now. Say you want her to succeed, but you are not sure how to help. Ask them indirectly how the supervised are supposed to train the supervisor.

Apologies for the length, but I couldn’t think of any to take out.

No one-on-one meetings unless absolutely necessary.
Keep contact to email/slack whenever possible. If someone else is even tangentially related to a conversation, CC them. Don’t delete voicemails.
I’m sure I don’t even have to say this, but here’s a short list of things you should NEVER TALK ABOUT with anyone in the office: politics, office gossip, race, gender, sexual orientation/other LGBT stuff, religion, history relevant to your country, stereotypes of any kind, or details of your personal life.
After meetings, volunteer to email everyone the action items/decisions made/timelines. Now everyone has a brief written record that broadly documents what you guys worked on every day. Not only this good CYA, it also helps you and your team stay organized.
Never communicate with her through informal channels like social media, texting, etc. Unless you’re at a startup, I personally think you should avoid following/friending coworkers on social at all.
Try not to contact her outside of business hours (depending on the company and your role this may not be realistic).
Keep your conversations limited to work and basic small talk. Your only hard opinions should be about work, sports, and your hobbies.
Make eye contact but don’t be weird about it. No longer than a few seconds.
Work to reduce gendered language in everyday use. “That lady in the parking lot was crazy” should be “That person in the parking lot was crazy” and so on. You'd be shocked at how much this colors some people's perception of you.
Never comment on any aspect of her physical appearance. I don’t care if she’s wearing half of her lunch on the front of her shirt, don’t bring it up.

If you only take two words away from this list, let it be these: PAPER TRAIL.

Be nice, be polite, but let her fail on her own. Help her no more than you would any other co-worker, and if directed to do otherwise, document your lost productivity.
