The claims you have probably heard most often is that getting married (or becoming romantically involved) makes you happier and healthier. Most of the studies purporting to show such things are massively flawed and could not possibly support such conclusions.

Cant really speak to the studies but I’ll just comment on my own experience of relationships, marriage and divorce.

When a relationship or marriage is going well, there’s nothing better.

But when it’s not, there’s nothing worse. And most of them go wrong more than they go right. That’s the problem.

Mike Ditka said he gave up coaching football because the pain of losing far outweighed the joy of winning. And even the greatest coaches in history lose more than they win.

For me, relationships are basically the same thing. The emotional, psychological and financial ruination that come when they go south outweigh the joy of when it’s going well.

The thing is we all notice how you can't just be with the female, you have to MARRY her. Even women cannot defend being married. The reason they push being married is pure manipulation. They know women are seen as a massive financial burden hence why it's a huge deal that a man becomes successful and why even today a woman becoming successful isn't a big deal. The point of marriage is to supposedly support the woman and child.

The issue is that there is nothing to punish or reinforcement proper behavior from the female. Yes, men can be trash too but men are legally punished, pressured, and shamed for not sacrificing it all for the female.

Also, no one knows anyone who was outright miserable and depressed because they were single. And very few speak positively of it because it's bullshit. I will admit that there was no strongest happiness than what I felt when I was "in love". But being single is not depressing/lonely/miserable/unhappy.

I remember when I was younger (in my 20s) that rush you get when you first start going out with a woman you liked...it was a flush of hormones and dopamine...and it was a really nice feeling. After my divorce, I was in my mid-40s and I started dating again...I didn't experience that same rush. Perhaps, it was due to the fact that I emotionally didn't get as involved "liking" the woman as I did in my 20s when everything was still all new...or maybe I wasn't as interested in getting into a long-term relationship because I realized it was losing game for me (the man)...no matter how good it was at the beginning of the relationship.

I'm a pretty emotionally stable and have been since childhood..... The only time I've felt nearly bipolar and unable to control my emotions was dealing with women who I knew had another guy in the picture or who I had some sort or relationship drama with .

The most neurotic I've ever been has been when I was in or attempting to maintain a relationship and that's without marriage. I can't imagine waking up to someone whose emotions, tone of voice, inactions, and disinterest clearly states " I regret being with you" every day for extended periods of time . What a killer to self esteem that is.
