Men must know more about politics because men are the most adversely affected by politics. There's a reason for example that almost all rough sleepers/homeless are men. There's no social safety nets for men.

Unless its something to do with women like abortion or the welfare state 99% of women could not give a fucking shit about politics. You've got a demographic of women who care about environmentally friendly shit too, generally middle class women who love animals and shit, nature-types. There's some nerdy chicks out there however who can debate a wide range of politics and not just environment/abortions/welfare state shit, but they're an exception rather than a trend.

We all knew this abundently well from experience. It is nice to see someone actually checking this out in a study.

EDIT: I forgot to mention before, it is really annoying how anytime there is a disparity it is always "bias" and "male privelege" and such other bullshit. The reality is, women don't put the work in to inform themselves. Never is there a call for more personal responsibility, it is how can we blame men for the problems women bring on themselves. Or perhaps it isn't even a problem, but a real biological difference.

It's fair to ask for more data on a study. I just don't think you should dismiss a study simply because you don't want to believe it. Ask for the extra details, get the extra details, then decide if it's solid or not.. don't just complain, dismiss it as sexist, then ignore it. That's not a solid way to build your world view.

Stuff like this, I'm never too sure about. Yeah, I think in general, women hold less of an interest in politics and news. If a woman wanted to learn how to debate/consume/produce opinions on politics, nothing would stop her. They just usually don't.

The majority of the girls i knew growing up, were the insecure, daddy's girl bitchy types, kind of dumb, very jersey shore-ish, however went to university, kept there mouths shut and did what was needed to get there degrees and become "educated". However on univsersity campuses you'd come across girls that are "up to date" with politics but tend to be hardcore, ultra-politically correct, femininits, that would over analyze every word in your sentence to find out if you're oppressing her. On the contrary, every once in a while you'd run into a rare breed of attractive, aware girl that is up to date with issues and can actually hold a convo.

It really isn't a surprise that men are generally more interested in politics than women. It's for the same reason they are more involved in "public life" in general.

For the majority of human history (and if chimps are any indication, many of our pre-human ancestors as well), precarious encounters with "outsiders" would have invariably been dealt with by the males of a given tribe.

When the shift toward settled life came about, living with the aforementioned outsiders became a practical necessity. Such living arrangements are not analogous to the older, smaller tribal groups which mankind had previously lived in.

Given all of this, it would be quite natural for men to continue in the similar engagement of political activity, or at the very least having a more significant interest in such matters.
