The nuclear family: for or against?

Nuclear families emerged with the Industrial Age and kids leaving homes to work in factories rather than farms.

Power has always been with the extended family as a unit. Nuclear families barely function because all responsibilities are in just two people, rather than spread out among more people with various strengths. Go with any kind of “gender” roles and the nuclear family comes down to one person.

It’s why we have so much stress in relationships. Stupid idea.

disclaimer: no judging in this post, just cold analysis of economic facts...

My takeaway from reading history: the "nuclear family" brings men and male labour into productive use for the benefit of civilisation.

IE: once 60% of men are MGTOW, which might happen, men:

don't work as hard
don't pay for babies and shit
don't maintain civilisation - they don't take out the trash, fix the sewers, repair power lines on a stormy night, etc. etc. etc.

There is no free ride. Women have forgotten this -- and currently take men for granted.

To tap into the "MGTOW" 60% of male power, you have to pay for it. The only currency of interest to a man is sex and children -- his children. IE: women pay for civilisation, including their grande no-fat lattes and facebook, by giving men access to reproduction.

Women today have reneged from their part of the bargain. If we revert to our traditional rate of ~40% of men with genetic offspring, we can expect our economic activity to be about half what it is today. Look at any country where there is a lot of men with 2+ wives, any country where male power is wasted -- a lot of them are poor.

The Christian-like family structure and work ethic is an economic powerhouse. This is not a religious argument nor an endorsement, just an observation.

But its okay -- we've been down this road before. Once women get tired of living in dirt, "virtuous" women will reappear. These are generational forces, however; don't expect any change in our lifetime. Expect the women your age today to continue acting like women your age today, for the rest of your and their lives.

The nuclear family is the very foundation of society. If you are against the nuclear family you are inherently evil for you want to see people suffer.

All else being equal a child raised with a father and a mother is better than all other options.

The advantage of the extended family was that the parents were incentivized to raise their children better because those children would be supporting them in their old age.

After social security this has changed. Many short sighted parents simply trust the schools to raise their children and then get them out of the house as soon as possible.

With the children trusting the government to care for their parents if they care at all.

A child needs to be prepared for the world. I'm for the utility of the nuclear family, but I think the Spartan Agogue was a fine replacement.

It was a trade off, little freedom for maximum social security in Sparta (Maslow Hierarchy seems like it'd be overflowing for Spartans. Food, connection, and social role guaranteed to every Spartan soldier.).

One thing you guys always forget is that you could always adopt a kid if you dont want to get divorced raped and child support. That's what im gonna do when im ready to pass on my wealth in the far future
