This is actually pretty profound, especially given how common the concept/line of thinking is among women. Goes to show the irrationality of their explicit words.

However, there is also the possibility of more of an implicit communication:

I think it's more likely that she asked you that question for reasons such as:

that she wants to incept into your mind the thought of making out with her. i.e. she either is interested in you (at least after some drinks) and wanted to see where you'd take the comment
--> for example towards validating her: i.e. wants you to flirt with her (sort of fishing for validation) and wanted to open up that line of thought in your brain (to see her sexually/romantically)
or she simply wanted to shittest you (to see if you'd overcome it)
or tease you (make you submit to her in a minor way)

Once you're over 40, you'll learn that no woman over 40 wants to be your friend, the same way that women from 15 to 35 realize none of their beta orbiters want to be friends either.

The solution: work into the conversation early on that you A)don't date (you can always claim you changed your mind later); or B) that you went out on a date with a 30 year old but thought she was too old for you.

This last one is particularly galling for the woman and she'll usually call you out on it. Just stick to your guns.

"I've never hung out with a guy that hasn't hit on me" I find this hard to believe especially if she's in her forties. Is it possible she was just adding that to perhaps justify her asking whether or not you're gay?

We do after all live in a PC world now where asking such questions off the bat might be considered "insensitive" or "offensive". I'm only pushing this as a possibility, I would assume she's gauging you though. Maybe she wants you to fuck her or maybe she wants to manipulate you, if the latter, then it would be in her best interest to establish whether she can use sex as a weapon.
