My uncle isn't the best man out there. He's a good man, but made a few fucked up choices in his youth. He met a woman in his youth, they were both into hardcore drugs, he knocked her up and they stopped the party life once they knew they were going to have a daughter.

My uncle kept his shit together for 20 years. He managed to build up a modest life for himself. Got a small house, a couple cars, ect. Not bad for an ex tweaker. But then he relapsed and everything fell to shit for him. His wife and kid left, he sold all his shit for just one more hit, lost everything and got clean again.

The guy has been clean ever since and I couldn't be happier for him, but the damage was done. His ex wife managed to turn the kid against him because of the drugs (remember though, she was all into the same shit when they were starting out).

Now he's doing everything he can to repair a relationship with a kid that sees him as little more than a doormat. He gives what little money he makes now and hands it all over to the kid, she just spits on it. Over the last five years or so he's given her thousands, even three cars which have each been totalled by her.

My uncle had a serious accident that landed him in the hospital for a month. He's over four hours away from any family that gives a shit about him. His daughter? No where to be seen. I've made the trip to visit him three times in the hospital, daughter is local and hasn't seen him once. I managed to talk to her online, guess what her biggest concern was. Getting the keys to his house and car so that her and her tweaker friends can have a place to party while uncle is laid out in ICU. She also wanted his debit card "for safe keeping", because I guess she feels someone at the hospital may use it to steal all his money.

My mom asked my uncle to come stay with her for a bit after he got out, just so he can get back on his feet. His response was that his daughter was where he needs to be. This man is going to die one day with nothing to show for it, all for a kid that has no love or respect for him. I'm all for a man doing for his kids, but at some point even they should be written off as a loss.
