There is nothing about being celibate. I am not a celibate, I still have sex with escorts. But I cut all relationships with other women. No women friends, no girlfriend, etc.

I don't understand why you told a female friend. It will create unnecessary drama. Talking with a woman is boring and tiring.

Just so everybody knows (old guy here), most of us are celibate MOST of the time. Even if you are not, get married, or have an LTR, as time goes on you WANT to be celibate. The act of seduction and the mating game is the biggest farce ever. I was married for 18 years. And I can tell you, most of those years, I was trying to figure out how I could "avoid" having to do the deed. It was all a great big lie. Rubbing one out was all that was ever necessary. Short, sweet, and back to your life. But the game of "love" and sex? Shit. It was an 18 year chore and burden.

I had a couple of people say something like "Humans wouldn't exist today if they didn't breed" but they think that everyone in the past has done this and when I told one of them about monks I was ignored. Think about it, how often do you see celibate men on mainstream media?

I recently found a celibate cousin who's over 50 years old in the family and all the adults think he's gay and treat him as the bad guy but yet he's the guy enjoying his life with no problems and giving the kids inspiration and positivity.

However many people will assume that the choice of celibacy was made for you (you were rejected by every female you encountered) and you are only pretending to choose celibacy to make yourself feel better. The other thing is, testosterone creates our sex drive. If you choose celibacy, some people might assume you have a hormonal disorder that makes you uninterested in sex.

Regardless, your sexual life is nobody's business, unless they are providing direct medical care to you.

I think it's a lack of perspective. Projection, maybe? A lot of people can't get their heads around that someone might willfully forgo sexual relations (or any perceived good, for that matter), if the person in question determines that it's not worth the effort for himself. This applies to a lot of stuff other than relationships and sex.

No kids? Must be barren/sterile, because everyone wants kids. No one would really choose to be childless.

Low paying job? Must be incapable of working white collar or high-paying tech jobs. No one would choose a lower-paying job.

Don't go out much with friends? Must not have any. No one would choose to spend so much time in his own company.

It's a strange, and I think a harmful assumption, that outside circumstance is the deciding factor, rather than the man exercising his own will and judgment.

I think the stigma of being celibate is set within a certain demographic, I also feel once you reach a certain age it does not really matter.

When I was younger back in my Jr. High and high school days it was an important event that defined who you are, also a rite of passage that marked the cool kids from the other "losers". As one gets older it just does not matter so much anymore, people in their 40's and beyond don't have sex as much as younger people anyway. Sex becomes very overrated as you mature, as does the stigma.

I can explain why the hamster responded that way. So when you said you were celibate, she obviously took it as an attack on her personal choices/character etc. She likely values promiscuity in her partners subconsciously or is promiscuous her self.
