I must admit the girl that writes code for particle accelerators would probably be more interesting than some of the vapid bar girls I have encountered.

But being a person who is also typically geeky, I am still expected to work out and game and dress nice if I am to get laid, they should be expected to do the same. Maybe we learned it way too late in life, but a truly intelligent person takes all this interpersonal stuff into account and balances it with their interests, rather than letting everything go except the thing they are interested in.

The issue with this geek-girl crap is that there are legitimate people with a shared interest in a culture that was predominantly male for decades.

Males created the culture with the occasional female participant and enthusiast. The males who created the geek culture gladly welcomed the female enthusiasts as they were rare and sought after.

However, since that time the geek culture has gone from fringe to main-stream. The females who hold interest in it and who helped construct it should be respected as any other. The issue comes in the group of people that join the subculture for the soul reason that, classically, males would welcome and dedicate a large amount of attention to any female that joined.

The easy question you can ask to determine if a female in the culture is a legitimate enthusiast or an attention whore is this: If it was unpopular, would you have still joined up?

Frequently the answer is 'no' I hate these people.

10 years ago (IMO), the geeky women understood they were, basically, out of place. Now, it's more of the entitlement attitude...

Bend the male to fit the female encroachment into male space- the exception is the rule- because there are a few women geeks stepping in to male dominated space, the males shall adjust their thinking and attitude.

I have been a geek for the last... well.... fuck as long as I can remember, so lets say 20 years.

I ran D&D and RP games from when I was 14 onwards and it was always a mix of guys and girls. Not once did I get this "treat me special" crap from any of them.

I only stopped table top gaming when I lost two players (both female, and awesome women), to real life tragic accidents.

After that, it just wasn't the same.

Since "geek" has become a fashion brand, you have seen all this fucking attenion whores come out of the god damned woodwork and start crying for attention special treatment.

even 10 years ago none of them would have admitted to having anything to do with geek culture. They would have played their consoles and games in in their rooms and not said a damn thing to their peer group because they would have been just as ridiculed as us guys were.

I am still in the geek culture, and now I am seeing more and more these geek princesses.

What is pissing us off most about this is the usual fucking Hypoagency crap. They come into a community and immediately start demanding special access and treatment because they have a fucking vag.

Geek culture and its relationship with women is a giant clusterfuck.

On the one hand, you have what you could call "legitimate" geek culture: people who like non-mainstream (esp. non-physical) activities or whatever. Gravy.

Sometimes, though, you get a subculture that at least unconsciously defines itself as outcasts. Girls are caught in a double bind when wanting to be a member of this culture: if attractive, they can never truly be a member of a culture that defines itself as unattractive; if unattractive, they pay the penalty all unattractive women pay: hostility and indifference.

The worst parts of nerd culture manage to send the same contradictory messages feminists do ("Fuck you---but if you're an attractive member of the opposite sex, come save me! (and by the way, fuck you for your attractive privilege)").
