For various reason, I work out of a coffee shop part of the week. 8 hours listening to various conversations around me. Note: I don't purposefully eavesdrop, but it happens.

Today a particularly young group came in. 2 girls and a guy around 18, as I was able to glean from their discussions. Took the table right next to me. By the time I became aware of what I was hearing, they had already been there a couple minutes.

The girls were talking to each other, and every time the guy tried to get a word in they just talked right over him. Through the course of their discussion I learned that this guy is a "friend" of theirs with no girlfriend. You can practically see him begging for scraps, but every time he tried to talk they just spoke right over him.

Then, something changed. They started asking him his opinion and listening to what he said. This goes on for a couple minutes, then they ask him to buy them some drinks. Just threw it at him like it was expected, the poor kid does it! As soon as the drinks are ordered, they go back to ignoring this poor guy.

I can't believe how transparent this was. I felt bad for the kid, but he kind of has to learn on his own. Still, I wish there were something I could have said to him, like "When you're ready, go look up MGTOW".
