Nobody objects to equal opportunity. But that's not what is being promoted. SJW's and feminists want equal outcomes. And if they don't get it, it's the mans fault! And if you don't see that, you are an absolute moron.

I thought women already effectively had equal opportunity, and have for more than 40 years. A law was recently passed to allow woman the equal opportunity to die in infantry units just like men, and there are serious talks about expanding the selective service (read: draft) to all "military" aged women. Women have just as much chance of getting into college (sometimes better chances) than men do. The same STEM courses that are available to all men are also very open for all women. The same engineering, information technology, and executive leadership occupations are available to both women and men who meet all qualifications. "Feminists" don't want equality, they want the same thing that their male counterparts have, but without any of the hard work, and discipline needed to excel. The reason why you find FAR less female engineers is because engineering requires you to creatively think with the intent of applying real world solutions to actually solve problems.

Women already have equal opportunity, that's not what feminism is about.

Men and women have their unique problems and approach for life and can never be equal. Also true equality is a lie that has been feeded to the masses. The female nature and tendency to be socialistic has destroyed societies before and will continue doing it. Most women don't want to take responsibility for anything yet demand to be in leadership positions. Your so called "equal oppurtunity" is defined as only getting the benefits from being a man and rejecting all other aspects which come with being a man. Misogyny hurr duuurrrr.

Equal Opportunity just doesn't exist. Why because no two people are equal. For example, An NHL has try outs there are two people wanting to try out. Both individuals are the same in every way except one of the individuals has no legs? Is there an equal opportunity in the try out for both? Unless you plan on knee capping the 2nd individual no such thing as Equal Opportunity.

Best you can ever hope for is Equality under the Law.

I subscribe to the theoretical concept, but I also understand the political implications.

First of all, folks get "equal opportunity" mixed up with "equal outcomes" all the time. Hell, look at this thread; folks are already wildly confused.

Second; as the concept is confusing, it allows both sides to try to weasel their perspectives into the public conversations under the guise of "equal".

I will always support gender agnosticism. If someone can do the job, they can do the job. I don't care if they have a dick, tits or a vagina ( or, frighteningly, all three ).

I will never support the promotion of equal outcomes ( see: the various programs to encourage more women to participate in STEM fields ).

I don't object to the concept, but I also see it as something that can never be achieved, and inevitably it gets hijacked by people who push for equal outcome rather than equal opportunity.

The STEM fields for example are virtually bereft of women despite there not being any barriers against women entering them. How do the gender warriors respond to this? They claim women don't "feel welcome" to explain why there aren't many women in STEM, then push for mandatory gender quotas and incentives to attempt to achieve artificial parity. Not only do they utterly fail in doing so, they also destroy any semblance of equal opportunity by creating an environment where women will hands down get the job over an equally, and in many cases more qualified man because the hiring companies are desperately trying to achieve equal outcome to appease those gender warriors.

Equal opportunity has existed for a long time, but when women fail to achieve equality in such a system, it inevitably becomes less about equal opportunity, and more about equal outcome.

Let me unpack this as best as I can: How can you provide equal opportunity? If you say everyone should be able to start out equal, so that everyone has an equal chance of success, then there we have a problem- because, not all are born into equal wealth. Some are born into riches, will get better education, and will also be lucky enough, to be smart enough to make good use of that education. They will of course live and die rich, as long as they don't get screwed by a whore wife/girlfriend.

WE cannot have everyone start out equal without discriminating against those who have an inherent advantage from the get-go, like those who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

If by equal opportunity you mean removing all hindrances in one's path to a successful life, then we have a problem there as well. Because not all brains are the same, not all bodies are the same. To prop-up the weak, the government will have to do favoritism. For example, let's say a particular program at a famous university admits only 50 candidates per year. That limit itself is a hindrance of the kind I mentioned before, because after the best 50, everyone else's dream of studying that course is cut short. Of course letting in unlimited candidates is impractical, so we've hit a dead end there.

So what is this equal opportunity that you speak of? To not be discriminated against in particular (as opposed to being discriminated against in general, by nature, biology, probability, and sheer coincidence) ? I thought we already have that in the Western countries to a great degree ( beside the gender and race quotas). All you have to do is get rid of affirmative action, and voila! you have your equality of opportunity, in its best practical form. But I doubt it will feel any different for most of us, because things are so different and discriminatory by nature, that a slight upward bump will barely register.

tl;dr: Equality of opportunity is a pipe dream.

Equal opportunity for everyone is a decent organizing principle for society. Nobody should be held back for arbitrary reasons. However, the idea of equal opportunity "for women" is ridiculous, at least in the West. Name one circumstance where women, because of their gender, are deprived equal political, social or economic opportunity. By supporting "equal opportunity for women," you imply that women do not already have equal opportunity. That is what I categorically reject.
