Yes, it's part of the social contract that makes civilization. You don't have to sacrifice your life for others, but when possible helping others is a prerequisite to being a decent human being

I don't think that I have to help other people in general, but I also can't ignore a person with a problem that I know I can help to solve. Plus, I do think that everyone should try make our time here a little bit better by doing at least small things, but it doesn't necessarily mean helping other people. In my book helping cats counts too.
