Hi there all!
I’m a new mom, we have a 3 month old, and I’m really struggling with my husbands work schedule during quarantine.
He’s a lawyer, and we’re both so grateful he has been able to work during quarantine despite the courts being closed. However, he has worked every single day for as long as I can remember. He works so much that me asking for Mother’s Day for him to be completely off work seemed like a big ask from me.
To be honest, this isn’t usually a problem. I have a vibrant social life and lots of hobbies to keep me busy. My mother is always around to hang out with etc. But she lives in the US and we live in Canada so we can’t go see her now at all, not that we would with the restrictions.
I guess my problem is this, he’s working from home from 7 to 7. I’m doing 100% of the childcare and chores, and I have no break. I don’t feel I can interrupt his work to take a shower and have him watch our daughter. She naps on me still or not at all. I’ve tried getting up earlier to sneak some self care in but our girl’s schedule is still a bit unpredictable as she’s still young.
On Wednesday this week he told me he was taking Friday off. I have been looking very forward to Friday since then, as it would be very nice to just hang out and have someone to talk to all day long that can talk.
This morning (Friday) he said he doesn’t remember saying that he would take the day off. And when I assured him he did say that and I was looking forward to it all week, he agreed to take the day off. Two hours later he’s back to work. When I expressed my disappointment he said “I don’t remember saying that, stop work shaming me.”
(Lol about work shaming, but you can see how important his work is to him I guess?)
I guess my question is, how to broach this subject later? I plan on speaking with him to tell him my feelings are hurt because they really are. I’m very disappointed.
