I’ve definitely considered going that route as well. Iron Council is the one I looked at closer.

On one hand, we need to be around other men that are striving to be better. In wrestling, it was known that you didn’t get any better by beating the fishes and the noodles over and over. You got better by wrestling the caged animal that mopped the map with you. Same in BJJ now. I learn way more by getting tapped out by the brown belt in 20 seconds than smashing another white belt.

But, on the other hand, I could see myself falling into a trap that I need someone else to push me along. The discipline and accountability has to come from within. MRP calls it a solo journey.

You’re also discounting the level of effort and time it takes to develop a genuine relationship with other men. I said in another comment that only comes through joint struggle and conquering.

Ideal situation would be to find like minded men near you.

At the end of the day, I struggled with dropping that amount of money on a paid tribe as well as the structured time commitment it’d take.

Well, prior to the Covid-19 theater, I had a workout group for christian men going. Starting something like that in your area might work too.

Good post. It is my strong opinion that masculine fraternities of some sort or another are the way forward for us gents. That said, I think starting something local is the best path. At the end of the day, as great as something like the Order of Man can be, it is the guys who live near you that you can call up in a pinch that will make the difference.

It is for that very reason I've begun working on something similar on a local level in my community. Men are starving for fraternity and we have an opportunity to feed them.

I was planning to start a local group of Christian men who would meet monthly for fellowship. However, the China virus hysteria has put that on hold.

There are many groups such as Kiwanis, Lion's Club, etc. which were founded from 1900-1930's which performed a similar function. However, the benefit of good fellowship with other men which those organizations offered for the first 50 or so years of their existence has mostly vanished.
