I will never forget the day.
My next-door neighbor and her so-called husband had a baby boy just several months after their first son. There was a huge shower ( and probably 100 gifts) for the first baby, and a few months later, when she had the second one,
This time, there was no baby shower and I guess she didn’t get much attention/gifts this time around so she posted on Facebook:
“Good thing my husband is going to take care of our second baby. Because nobody got him anything. Thank God for my husband” #theunlovedbaby
I was so shocked I took a screenshot and share with my family and neighbors. They were people who commented under her stupid posted saying things like it’s OK honey normally when people have a baby of the same sex so close together, people assume that you have everything you need.”
There was so much for me to unpack there, starting with the fact that she acted like it was other people‘s responsibility to take care of her children (which is why I don’t do baby showers anymore—-people have really forgotten that the point is to CELEBRATE a new life, not just get free stuff) but also the fact that she acted as if having her husband take care of his own son was optional! I was shocked.

I wonder if we know the same person 😆 My ex from a decade ago knocked up some chick my best friend went to high school with. As such, she had a front row seat to the show. I had completely forgotten this until one day she sent me a screenshot of post the young woman had made and said "what the fuck??" They had a kid the same gender less than a year after the first. She had a baby shower 2 hour drive from most of their friends and family. She was so upset that only 8 people had showed up and proceeded to rant about it on FB. I don't even know 8 people who I would invite to a shower .
