I know it’s a joke but I have to vent: I cannot believe how many women i hear fawning over this character. It glamorizes everything we need our young women to run away from (even when they aren’t a serial killer!). And it’s all done in the name of “love”.

I am disturbed by this, too. I read both the books and was alarmed by how many women on the Goodreads pages were swooning over Joe. GROSS.

Did you find that the book and/or show portrayed him in a way that could warn young women to look out for red flags or is the author a pickmeisha ?

I found his voice to be obviously satirical and hyperbolic, similar to Patrick Bateman from "American Psycho," or Humbert Humbert in "Lolita" and almost none of that came through in the show and anyone who missed that in the books isn't a very skilled reader. He's meant to be deplorable and pathetic.

CORRECTION - he's meant to be deplorable and pathetic in the FIRST book. The second book was pure garbage and felt sympathetic to him.

I have a hot stalker. His ideal woman is a beautiful innocent young virgin, and yet he is hung up on me, someone who is not a virgin and older than him. He has even met the man I slept with, my ex. He was planning to ask me out ice skating if I hadn't brought my ex(at the time boyfriend) along.
He really has this idealized fantasy view of me and has never bothered to really get to know me. He describes me as angelic. He doesn't actually love me, but the idea of me. One day he messaged me saying he had done something terrible: he got a girl to cheat with him on her boyfriend, but he called her a whore the moment they were about to have sex and kicked her out. This was supposed to make me sympathize with him or make me feel bad for him. Instead I blew up at him for treating another woman that badly and told him to get out of my life.
Cue the online stalking. He even keeps asking mutuals about me, because I keep blocking him so he cannot keep tabs on me. I am lucky we don't live in the same country. No matter how much I cuss him out, he is still infatuated. Just because someone is hot, it doesn't make the stalking any more acceptable irl. You know they still have major personality issues and only love the fantasy version of you.
