I dont celebrate it because its not a special day for me. Its just another day.
I dont want gifts because nobody is gonna buy what I want. If I wish for a new skillet, I will get a stupid skillet I didnt want instead of the iron cast one that I did want. I putr lots of time into researching before I spend my money, other people do not. I dont want bad products.

Birthdays have more significance for women and youth since they want to feel like they have a place in society which I understand
[–]lookingforinsight227 points28 points29 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My grandmother takes birthdays more seriously than my 8-year-old self did. Believe me, it's not just because she's reached old age. It was this way before I came into the picture.
[–]o0shad0o25 points26 points27 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's an old saying. "Men have ages, women have birthdays."
[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Are you me? Lol
[–]MeagoDK17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I hope not. I prefer being one person instead of two, but it's possible.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Same, whenever any special occasion came cultural or otherwise It never excited me, maybe it's a lack of interest in tribalism for me.
[–]Luciano7009 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hell birthdays aren't even what they once were
Back in the day it was an actual celebration
Now birthdays have become nothing more than attention whoring fests and consumerism contests
I think part of this is due to the social media fatigue syndrome some people have inhibited because that is kind of where their attention showering comes upon rather than from family settings for example
Corporations have learned how to capitalize upon birthdays, just like other special occasions
I am turning 19 this year and gotta give it where it is due, this is the first year ever I am legit not looking forward to my birthday. All I want is some money added in for my savings to Daytona Rolex 24, I think we're in the end days of motorsport it seems given the SJWism and environmentalism that has taken over the sport in recent years. Auto racing has faded away so much that expressing your interest for it makes you seem an outcast, hell even the big talk car enthusiasts seem to have no recognition of the fact most technology they appreciate comes from auto racing in of itself whether is infotainment or performance.

What kills me is when I buy gifts, I do the research, and I get people shit they actually want, cause I actually pay attention when others talk and make note of their hobbies and interests.
This is clearly a bridge too far for women. You know, actually understanding anyone else's interests. It's just too much for them.
[–]Dark_Shroud0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Same here, I decided around ten years ago that I would only buy people useful gifts because I just can't stand all this useless consumer bullshit. My mother and I had casually started doing this anyway but I made if official.
The husband of long time friends still talks about a bit set we bought him almost twenty years ago. Off brand Titanium bits used for wood working and more specifically cabinet making. Being able to do all that finishing work carried his business through the Obama admin.
You like cooking or just moved into a new place? Here's a set of pots & pans or mixing bowels. Here's a Nuwave/George Foreman cook top. They all end up loving them and more importantly using them on a regular basis.
[–]CeleritySteam0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It became just another day as soon as I turned 18.
And then I started buying my own presents which were both better and more expensive anyways.
[–]rocko2000249 points50 points51 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
That, and there's other reasons. For instance, a reminder that we're getting old, men, even single men, have other pressing issues to worry about, men value their private life, and women see any celebration as an excuse to virtue signal on social media.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It's the only issue I take objection to substantively, right now I'm in my 20s but I know for a fact that in 10 years I'll start getting sick, slow and decrepit cognitively and gradually it'll get even worse.
If they don't cure aging in my lifetime I'll die a pissed off old man right until signing out.
[–]tingsrus12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
In the next 10 years you dont have to end up getting sick, slow or depreciate cognitively. Trust me. In the next 10 years you could be in your prime. Lifestyle choices and eating habits make a huge difference on ones overall health.

""enjoy the blessing of strength while you have it and do not bewail it when it is gone unless… you believe that youth must lament the loss of infancy, or early manhood the passing of youth. Life’s race-course is fixed; Nature has only a single path and that path is run but once, and to each stage of existence has been allotted its own appropriate quality; so that the weakness of childhood, the impetuosity of youth, the seriousness of middle life, the maturity of old age — each bears some of Nature’s fruit, which must be garnered in its own season." Marcus Tulio Cicero - On old Age.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
you believe that youth must lament the loss of infancy, or early manhood the passing of youth.
I don't believe young dudes ought to regret their life experience if they make reasonably good/satisfied choices say like pursuing their desires/wishes in their youth. Nor believe lamenting youth for the sake of it, cause that's just asinine in and of itself.
Life’s race-course is fixed; Nature has only a single path and that path is run but once, and to each stage of existence has been allotted its own appropriate quality; so that the weakness of childhood, the impetuosity of youth, the seriousness of middle life, the maturity of old age — each bears some of Nature’s fruit, which must be garnered in its own season."
It's a big appeal to nature fallacy, feelz before realz sorta shit Marcus is making up just so he can stay comfortable with the inevitable apprehension. It doesn't have to be any of that case if we can genetically alter our bodies and in turn alter our life-course where we'll only have to experience the good stage of life which is the youth.
[–]prbonfanti0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Alter our bodies to experience only youth? that sounds a falacy in Dorian Gray style, we all grow old and die, not become younger, just because billionaries want to live forever don't means they will achieve eternal youth. And if you make sounds even worse the coming of age, is about feelz too, but is focusing in the worst part, what can make a person more miserable in any time of life.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yap I'm already eating healthy, and also making reasonable lifestyle choices cautioning against bad-stuff, courtesy of being a health nut and being scared of death (nothingness).
Let's all hope in less than 20 years we'll be able to reach longevity escape velocity where we'll be getting younger every passing day because of new breakthroughs in aging will be making headway at a faster rate than compared to getting older.

Only narcissistic children want to have a day of "memememememe" special status, most guys are plenty happy alone. Every day is my birthday, because I do what I want and buy what I want. I don't need someone forcing me to spend the day with their friends and family under the pretense they're celebrating me. In reality it's an insta photo op for the GF to show off her cute themes, cakes, deco, etc. and have everyone come give presents she hinted at.
Congrats! You just got that juicer she coincidentally wanted. Also that heated steering wheel cover that.....oh shucks it only fits her car. Oops! At least you got dress socks! Thin, uncomfy sweaty dress socks rule! Make sure you post lots about how grateful you are to her! She didn't do this for nothing, she has to be paid in clout!

This hit home.
When I was married, I bought an iPad for my wife as a Christmas gift. Top of the line version. She gave me pajamas.
[–]xMB997 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What were the yearly anniversarys like?
[–]SpacemanLost6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My ex makes sure my kids are too busy or distracted to call me on my birthday.
My current wife spends her own money, and has gotten me stuff like 1) Front Row Center tickets to Weird Al, 2) P1 subscription to PermiumTom, 3) An evening to guest DJ at my favorite local radio station.
Guess which one I met after taking the Red Pill...

For all the ill-will BLM and the 'race riots' are creating in our particular circles, I have to say that a fuck-ton of black dudes are so fucking based. Warms my heart.
Respect.
[–]lookingforinsight212 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The majority grew up in all-female households and settings. They watched the absurdity compound to the point when new forms of chaos emerged.
Once you've stepped in dog shit you're gonna be ready to swerve.
[–]Dark_Shroud0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's been a duel sword for the black community. The ones smart enough to see the bullshit have taken it to heart. Plenty of younger black men now fly off the handle at the drop of a hat like women do because they only learned how to act like women. No one simps harder than black men because they have serious mother issues.
That's not even touching on how abusive black women are.

Not so much 'celebrating their birthdays', but who they have to celebrate with.
[–]HonestGamingTroll0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The best presents are the ones I buy myself anyway.
[–]Luciano70017 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Because birthdays, like babies being born, is another corporate fetishization used to leverage you into taxing yourself to death and continuing to fall for the religion of consumerism
[–]battle-obsessed5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, one more reason to go out and spend spend spend. Fuck that.
[–]GayyFieri10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
For the same reason I don't read kid's books anymore- celebrating your birthday every year is for children.
[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Guys just aren’t as self centered. I’d always see girls at jobs being like “ oh my god guys so what are we going to do for my birthday !!”
Such an annoying thing to hear. Especially as they get older and older. Like omg 30 gotta make it a special day. Why? Why do you need a bunch of people to fuckin look at you for a day.
My favorite way to spend a birthday is to take some acid and trip on the weirdness of life
[–]DJ26888 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because men are adults and we realize giving back to the world is more important than celebrating ourselves.
[–]term1nat0r19 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When I get older, I’m just going to bring my friends to some restaurant like Twin Peaks and buy them a beer or two. Nothing special and I get to enjoy the company of my friends. Worth much more than socks, or any other material gift
[–]Captain_REEcard9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Women expect gifts, flowers, chocolates, etc, for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, their birthday, their anniversary, Christmas, you get the idea. They want you to make a big day out of it.
Then women think men want that in return, but I bet if you asked most guys, they'd just like to be allowed to go fishing or drink beers with their guy pals, who they probably rarely see, and they'd like to be allowed to do that without the wife around nagging and complaining about everything the men are doing.
Men are very easy to satisfy. Women are not.
[–]Dark_Shroud2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just look at how many guys say they only want a quiet day for father's day.
Then they talk about how their wife will often fuck it up intentionally for them. Dump the kids one them for the day and take off to some bullshit. "Oh didn't you want to spend Father's day with your kids?"
All the fellow Jeep owners or other 4x4 owning guys who simply drive off to some forest area with a cooler to enjoy the peace & quiet. Yeah I'll go with that plan.
[–]AndyTravelGuy3147 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because no one gives a crap about men. Average girl can get dozens of presents and dozens of guests with ease. How about average guys? I was lucky if 2-3 guys came to my birthday. As a man no one gives a crap about you
[–]Sumfuc6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’m very quick to share my Amazon list with my family. I ask the same in return. I don’t expect people to know what I want, tell em instead. Stuff I want ranges from limited Bicycle playing cards, good harmonicas to ink for my fountain pens.
Modestly priced items that could be stocking stuffers...if they give a damn to make me happy. If they can’t even get me stuff that starts around $15 - $60 then I know they ain’t right to me.
[–]socksnails6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Me personally: because I have three friends who are busy with their own lives and most of my family are pieces of shit who don’t wish me happy birthday despite me calling or texting them on their birthdays.
[–]Global_MGTOW6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've only had ONE Birthday party thrown for me in my entire life and I ended up getting my ass whipped in front of my entire family by my mom.
[–]4707081 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How dare you draw attention from her. It may be your "birthday" but it's her giving-birth-day, -which as you know, is the world's hardest job thats been done billions of times for hundreds of thousands of years in every conceivable circumstance.
So you just think about that next time you wanna feel any significance. Smh. Kids these days...
[–]jameer942 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because men aren't as narcissistic as women...that was easy.
[–]Red_October842 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’m not sure about anyone else but I hate my birthday because everyone will use it as leverage on me saying “oh but I did this for your birthday, you should do this for me!”
If I expect and demand nothing but to be left alone on my birthday then no one can get leverage over me
[–]mr_c971 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What's the point of celebrating your birthday?
I don't celebrate mine. I'd rather celebrate my success and achievements.
Existence is easy: eat, drink, shit, piss, fuck, sleep. Everybody does it, so what makes you worthy of celebrating your existance?
[–]Luciano7001 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Birthdays make more sense from a family perspective
Kinda like baby showers
[–]user92930 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
days can’t happen more than once
[–]thehedgehawg0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Aint that the fucking truth...
[–]StingRayFins0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Solipsism again. We can simply ask, "Why do girls care so much about birthdays anyways?!"
But of course she didn't think about that. It's NOT okay to not care about your birthday because that's not what she personally believes.
If girls like birthdays, you're criticized if you don't.
If she doesn't care about birthdays, she'll laugh at you and call you immature if you do.
You cannot win. She's solipsistic so her way is the "right" way.
[–]themenacehimself0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’d prefer if people gave me the cash instead of guessing. I’m good at getting myself gifts.

[–]badaboomxx0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I really do not care about my bd, I mean, my whole family always forgot it when I was a kid, now sometimes they remember it, but mostly when someone wants to ask something for me.
[–]danny_oy0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because I'm terrified at the passing of time and the inevitable cease of my life, not because I don't like people singing happy birthday to me
