What should you avoid?
Shopping hauls and designer logos. Nobody needs to know you bought yet another Michael Kors bag.
Endless restaurant meal pics. Just eat your Applebee's dinner.
Adding men. Make him ask for your phone number, don't add him on Snapchat.
Selfies and a new profile pic every week. I know a woman is going through a bad breakup when she suddenly posts all these "makeup" selfies fishing for "Girl, you're gorgeous!'
Anything that suggests your social media life interferes with your real life and being glued to your phone in public. Adults enjoy life, teenagers Snapchat about it.
When someone tells me their social media is just for keeping in touch with family and friends but they have 1000 Instagram followers, it doesn't add up.

I'd be curious to get opinions on this. For myself I rarely post at all and don't think much about it because the guys I go for always without fail loathe social media and don't even have accounts

It is possible to have social media for reasons other than adding guys you want to date

Of course it is! I love being able to keep up with - and show support for - distant friends and family through social media. I passionately disagree with the notion that it's somehow a shallow, narcissistic way to cultivate relationships. Dating websites are for adding guys you want to date!
Even assuming your comment to be true, what of single girls? How should they navigate their social media presence?

Well at some point you have to have your own personality and use your own judgment.
Some people might think that an otherwise innocent bikini photo at the beach is completely inappropriate no matter what, whereas some think that a bikini photo at the beach (not sexually posed) is just fine.
As long as you are not posting anything clearly sexual or something that is very obvious or explicit in its "look at me" factor, then I wouldn't worry much.
The men who comment crap like '💦👅' under a girl's photo are not the type of men you should be interested in and any quality man would find it a red flag if those comments appear on your posts.
Men who worship girls on social media are losers. So as long as you're not catering to that crowd, you should be okay.
Just be sure to keep your page private as much as you can.

Where did I say it wasn't? Clearly the fact that I have social media when none of the guys I'm ever into have it proves that. My point was that I personally don't even think about how I come off on social media to guys because the ones I like aren't on there anyways.

I was going to say this.
I know I'm just one guy, but I don't do social media.

I don't use social media much, I am on facebook, but have never posted anything there, only a new profile picture once a year or something. I have an Instagram account too, I don't have any selfies there, only pictures of cakes/desserts I make, animals, nature and some of my drawings. I think I have like 50 followers or something... I don't think my account either helps me or spoils my changes with a man. But I think a man would rather be with someone who doesn't need online validation or validation from other men in general.
Edit: I am on facebook to keep in touch with my friends, and we use the chat/group chat a lot, but my profile is very private.

The "live your life" message in that comment is solid.
I'm annoyed by a lot of social media but the nature of my work dictates I have a presence. A lot of the content I like to follow (fitness models/lifting coaches, drag, makeup, some particular artists, anything related to non-professional relationships) aren't really a complimentary part of my professional life though so I find myself being reserved when interacting with content I enjoy consuming. I keep that, as well as my locations, private.
A lot of the content I share and am an active audience of is related to my profession. I make professional content relevant to my field public, because I want people to know about it and when new acquaintances look me up I want them to know they've found the right person.
I don't want my presence to not reflect me. I don't want it to tell personal private things that Man got to learn about me while dating, but that's what social media strives to do. Due to the grating way people treat social media like a minute to minute therapist I do only share things I find valuable. Within the confines of professionalism, I do social media for me. It's a highlight reel I enjoy reflecting on... Instagram in particular.

I think social media presence says a lot about a person, male or female. It's a highlight reel of your life and in some cases a first impression. Even if I meet someone in person it doesn't take me too long to find out their full name, where they went to college, where they grew up, etc. Social media profiles have made my vetting experiences so much easier. For example: he posts too many selfies, he just got out of a serious relationship, he goes out drinking too much, the list goes on.
Social media presence and activity is all around us. I avoid the obvious like excessive selfies, explicit/vulgar photos, and duck lips. I always smile in photos. I don't post often, but if I do, I want my social media profile to give people an idea of what my personality is like, or what is important to me. For example:
Before my significant other passed away (he introduced me to RPW), I practiced not being on my phone when with company. Resulting in not a lot of social media activity. But I think the takeaway here is that if you do post on social media, make sure your profile showcases the best version of yourself. Always keeping in mind that anything you post online is a representation of not only yourself personally, but professionally as well.
I have worked for companies that go through social media profiles during the hiring process, much like I do when I meet someone new.

I think this is super super context specific (sorry I'm sounding like a broken record, always saying that). For instance, not only do younger people expect/accept a higher level of social media usage, but certain generational cohorts specifically have high levels of social media use. If you were in college when Facebook first came out, you may have thousands and thousands of FB friends because everyone added each other; if you're not in the US, or you're in your late 30's, that's a lot more unusual. I know 14 year olds who send literally 100+ Snaps a day. Perhaps when they're in their 20's and dating, that sort of thing will be normal and even expected, whereas obviously if a 30 year old BF of mine sent me 100 snaps a day I'd be baffled.
The overall rule of thumb I believe in, is minimize vanity posts. A vanity post is one that exists solely or mostly to get likes, celebrate yourself, or celebrate your appearance. It's a bit ambiguous, but posts meant to celebrate or share a hobby, passion, friend, etc. are IMHO better received. And no, spending money to go to fancy restaurants is not a real hobby ;)

I just straight up don't post a lot. Recently it's been some nice photos with the man, and a couple he took of me. I'm just kind of private, and I think it's classier to have my own life without sharing it everywhere.
