I am religious and while it does come at a cost, there are some perks. “Saving myself for marriage” is a lot softer on my ego than “nobody finds me attractive” :’)

are you sure ?? I feel like the most bitter and unhappy population of the sub are the religious people who are very upset that religion isn't followed by the masses.

im very atheist, i was raised as one and i questioned it in my teens, was super interested but i never felt any genuine belief in a flawed evil higher being + i kinda believe in some life after death but not in a heaven/hell dichotomy way

I grew in the Jewish and Christian Tradition. Both have a pretty strict patriarchal view. I pretty much abandoned it completely.

Christian. Yes it has influenced me a lot. My lack of happiness is more from my own ineptitude but I am content with having to work on that. In general though, I despise how the majority of men and women think about relationships but that's what it be so it doesn't bother me much. For the most part, I see people who are too selfish or too spineless.

My take on gender roles is basically, you can have your freedom if expression BUT you have obligations you need to fulfill so do them. A healthy does of pragmatism is needed.

Men treat your women right. They tend to be weaker but that does not make them less human. Women, treat your men right. The burden of performance is innate and you can make it easier or make it hellish.

For the most psrt gender roles come to this conflict: since one person will have to make the final say, why should it be the man's/woman's right? To answer that I can't articulate it well but C.S Lewis has decent writings on it.

I grew up in a household where religion wasn't pushed too hard, besides things like prayers and occasionally going to church.

So I ended up being pretty indifferent to religion as a faith or a personal form of belief. I do find religions and religious beliefs/practices interesting and can respect other people's beliefs (to varying extents) but they just aren't for me, being a godless heathen seems to work best for me.
