From James Taranto, and his daily article "Best of the Web Today", on WSJ:

There's a theory that feminism isn't really an ideology but a form of feminine contrivance--a set of rationalizations designed to conceal one's true nature. In support of that idea we present a piece from Jezebel.com by one Lindy West, titled "Men Who Insist You Change Your Name Make Terrible Husbands."

She refers, of course, to the tradition of a woman's taking her husband's surname upon marriage. The preferred feminist convention is for the woman to continue using her father's name as a statement against patriarchy. Miss West has complex views on the subject. She asks rhetorically: "Can we all just agree up top that it is a historically proprietary maneuver with [disreputable] roots? It may mean something different to you now, but it was designed to signify ownership."

On the other hand:

Here's where this gets complicated--here's why "tradition" is an insidious concept and why feminism is a beautifully nuanced discipline--I, Lindy West, despite all of the above, personally find the idea of taking my future husband's name kind of . . . romantic. I would probably do it if he would let me (doubtful, though--my current boyfriend takes a way more hardline feminist stance on this than I do).

So wait a minute. She starts by denouncing men who insist, against the wishes of their prospective wives, that they change names, but it turns out she's with a man who insists, against her stated wishes, that she not change names. What logical conclusion is there other than that what she really wants is a dominant man?

Not sure how to flair my posts, but this is TRP Example all the way.
