Your post has been removed, RP says nothing one way or another on abortion. It is something every individual and couple must figure out for themselves and a topic such as this tends to encourage debate and animosity.

I am pro-choice, but frown upon using abortion as the go-to birth control and not using any actual contraceptive methods.

After the 4th month* it is too late, imo, to opt for an abortion, but luckily this is usually an occurrence only when a medical issue is the reason for terminating the pregnancy.

Pro life when it comes to ideals, but I accept that reality is too imperfect to force that on others, so I am pro choice in reality. I do firmly believe in multiple check ups before allowing the abortion to be performed, you're ending a human life and it should not be taken lightly.

Morally speaking, it should be rare as hen's teeth, and it shouldn't be happening beyond 14-16 weeks without good medical reason. But it should be available for medical reasons whenever it is required (a lot of severe congenital abnormalities that aren't compatible with life aren't picked up until late on).

Practically speaking - sex-ed is terrible, contraception understanding is terrible, access to early abortion is terrible - so I have to back down on my perfect ideal to accommodate reality.

It's killing an human being (unique dna) who did nothing wrong , I'm not against it totally but we have to know what are we doing. Said that,I think that if a woman have the right to kill a baby,the possible father must have at least the right to not consider him his son and not pay nothing. I'd prefer to make an abortion the consent also of the father.

I believe that a child is entitled to protection. The question is: when does an embryo become a child? They used to think it was at birth. However, ultrasounds have shown us how early the fetus resembles a child in function. Some suggest it should be when the child can live without the mother’s support. Children used to be non-viable outside the womb if they were born at 26 weeks; now I’ve heard of a case of 22 weeks. I suspect the line of viability will continue to be pushed back. For this reason, I think any line we draw will be arbitrary. When the stakes are as high as a person’s life, then I think we should choose the safest line possible: that is, at the moment of conception.

Note that this argument has an implication: there can be no exception for cases of rape. As tragic and terrible as that situation is, you cannot use one crime to justify another. The argument does still allow for termination in situations where pregnancy is threatening the mother’s life; then a self-defense argument suffices.

It’s shocking to me that feminists today want to promote abortion as a good for women; whatever you want to say about the ethics of abortion, I think you can recognize that many - if not most - women in that situation don’t want to be there. Abortion is often a last resort of the desperate - a recourse for a woman whose husband cannot support her or who has bedded a man with no commitment in the desolate and misguided hope that sex might gain her the love she seeks. Abortion is a symptom of a broken society in which men and women put their own short-term needs above the long-term needs of their children. That’s nothing short of tragic - even if you hold that it’s necessary. How I long for yesteryear’s rhetoric of “safe, legal, and rare” rather than today’s bizarre wishes to have had an abortion for the sake of argument! If Gosnell is any indication, the left has given up any commitment to “safety” in such matters.

Though I would rather the US ban abortion, I have little interest in criminalizing these desperate women. I would much rather see doctors prosecuted, as they possess power in these situations and are the ones who profit from it. It’s worth noting (since this is an RP forum) that the current abortion laws create a gendered double standard for child care. A man must take responsibility for his child in the form of child support, even if he wishes the child wasn’t born. If he does want the child, he cannot stop the mother from getting an abortion. A women need not take responsibility for her child; she can get an abortion. If she does want the child, she is legally guaranteed support from the father for 18 years. I don’t think this situation is fair to men. Both genders should be required to take responsibility for the life they create.
