First off, my boyfriend and I have been together for a year or so now. I am in college, and he is about to graduate. It is safe to say that my boyfriend is not the cheesy, romantic type. And I was okay with that! ... for a while. I don't want to be smothered with compliments and gifts on the daily. However, I do expect some romantic gestures on special occasions such as Valentines Day, and my birthday. To my boyfriend, these things are superficial and don't define what a good relationship is. He has every quality in a man that I could ever want. He is ambitious, intelligent, and kind. He has his own way of showing he cares about me, but I don't know why I find myself building up this much resentment over the lack of romance. Its a stupid thing, yet I can't put those priorities aside without feeling like I'm settling. Am I just being superficial and ungrateful?
