Getting money is action. Keeping money is behaviour. Multiplying money is knowledge.

Remember these 3 principles and you'll be on your way to better position yourself financially.

Do the work.

You aren't entitled to an average house, an average standard of living, or an average income.

Figure out what motivates you, hobbies, career choices, etc. what do you want to accomplish in life? What about your circle of friends? Some say you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

What skills do you have? Certifications? Licenses? Don't be afraid to work at Walmart collecting carts from the parking lot. If you find a 40-hr/wk job, what are you doing with the rest of your week? I work over 96 hours per week when I work.

Trim down your expenses. Are you paying for too much apartment? You need to know where every dollar is going, every month, without exception.

What do you do on your days off? Have you signed up for your free library card? Have you looked at improving yourself on your days off? Volunteer at an animal shelter, help out with a church project, network and learn a skill.

If you do nothing, basic math says:

Doing nothing at all: (1.00)³⁶⁵ = 1.00

1% improvement per day: (1.01)³⁶⁵ = 37.7

Don't spend money you don't have buying things you don't need just to impress people you don't know.

Edit: I wrote my response based on a US perspective, but I imagine the principles translate well. Specific steps would be different, for example the library card, but the overall premise stands.

STEM degree. Live well below your means, invest money and stay out of debt. Build your net worth, ignore what all the morons are doing on social media. There are a lot of people that live debt fueled lifestyles with new cars, expensive vacations, etc. Don't live like those people. They are morons.

On the flip side, don't die the richest man in the graveyard. Treat yourself occasionally as long as your financial house is in order.

One last thing, if you do end up building a sizable net worth, don't tell anyone. When people find out you have money, they'll expect you to help them out, donate to their cause, etc. Best to just let everyone think you're broke.

I studied STEM, graduated and worked as a contractor after college as an engineer. Made pretty good money and invested it. Try to see if you can get a loan or grant to study STEM in something in high demand and not easy to outsource.

Lots of people advising stem here ... Didn't you guys just read that he is poor? How the heck is he going to get money for something as dumb as college.

I finished stem college and it is way overrated.

If you want to earn decent money, get into plumbing or electrician. The degree is a lot lower to obtain but these fields earn quite a bit!

Just try to obtain apprenticeship and show your motivation, meaning do work outside of work. Try to study up, ask questions, etc.

Being a waiter and transforming into a host also gives you decent money. I went from 6 months waiting to a host in a decent restaurant and I earned double.

The important part is that you take up responsibility!!!!!!!!!! Ask questions, learn, move on your own, motiviation, clean shit and always come with a smile. Being tired, vacations, etc is all excuses. Only weak people need to make excuses.

And don't buy shit you don't need. I have a very small apartment and I eat cheap shit. I was fine with minimum wage. Now, I already saved enough and started my own business.

Drink water from the sink, don't smoke, no alcohol, keep it on the down low.

Heck, even running after a garbage truck earns you decent money because no one wants to do the job so they pay extra to keep people working it.

To do more you must become more. For me I served in the military (active and reserve) for 26 years. I used the GI bill to get my degree. I worked in the nuclear industry, got my pilots license and commercial drone license. Never stop improving. To DO more you must BECOME more.

Its no secret! - You have to work! And work a lot if you want it all! Sorry, there are no shortcuts for most of us!

You could earn a STEM degree, or learn a trade, both are good paths to earn good money!

But honestly, you can build wealth just by working a minimum paying job, but keeping your expenses low.

In the old days, you would throw your spare money into a high interest savings account and call it a day, unfortunately those days have gone way of the dodo!

So if you want your many to grow you are going to have to do a lot more speculation, usually meaning stocks and shares. Fortunately these days there are a pile of services you can take advantage of!

You could open an account with one of these free trading apps and buy into the large etfs for markets all around the world (though currently you would want to keep a large part of your cash in the main US market S&P 500). By doing this you will have a higher chance of out earning a savings account.

If you want, you could try your hand at buying direct stocks on these platforms, either choosing dividend, growth or both types of stocks.

Or you could take up a robo investing service, where you basically get asked a series of questions about what sort of things you want to invest in, you submit a monthly payments and it does everything for you in the background.

The only other thing to note, is that your government may have some sort of tax free account you could put these in, if you can take it, you may have to do some quick reading up about it before opening an account, but I highly recommend that you do, as the saying goes 'a penny saved is a penny earned', or as the other saying goes 'fuxk the taxman!'

Crypto is something I would recommend throwing some of your cash into as well, but it is very volatile, so if you can't take the big losses, as with stock's and etfs, I would stay away, as you'll most likely just end up loosing money in your panic.

All I can say is the key is consistent investments. That way, you buy when the price is high, and you buy when the price is low.. And over the long term the actual price flattens itself out.

Crypto as I stated is highly volatile, but imo still worth it. And I can understand anyone looking at it from the outside and going "wtf! I'm not going anywhere near that" But I would say open an account and throw any spare change you're happy to loose, even if its just the price of a coffee. Crypto (as stock apps) you can buy fractions of a coin, so you don't need $50,000 to buy 1 bit coin, you can just buy $1 worth of bit coin. And as stocks, there are a number of crypto currencies you can buy into so I would spread your investments across a number of them, with your major bulk in bit coin and etherum.

Outside of that, if you want to be an earner, then you are looking at running your own business or "side hussle", find something outside your regular income stream you can do to earn extra money, like I said at the beginning you have to work and work A LOT.

You can also save up for property, and then rent that out, there are a number of ways you can run that also, you can either use it for rental income (and just pay the interest off) and then after 20 - 30 years sell the house and hope it pays the principal. Or you can get the renter to pay off the mortgage, nothing much in the way of income until it is paid off in the 20 - 30 years, but then you either get ALL the income or you sell off the house and get a lump sum.

But all of this takes time and effort, there is no way round it. And you really want to keep your spending down, $1 you spend today is $10 you don't have in the future.

So avoid the major money pits, don't over spend partying, the ladies.. Good Lord they are a syphon, live with your parents as long as you can, it will save you a shit ton of cash, and has the added bonus of being highly unattractive to the ladies!

In the US, the military is honestly a pretty good option for lifting yourself out of poverty. I joined at 19 with literally $0 and am now set to be a millionaire by 40 (mostly from investing and living frugally). In addition, the military paid for my engineering degree, a ton of certifications, and gave me a broad network if I feel like still working in aviation when I retire.

Just go for a branch and job combo that offers marketable skills if you dont want to make a career of it. If you join the army and are told to hand dig holes for a 4 year enlistment, there is a very small market for using those skills when you get out. Meanwhile if you go navy or air force and focus on naval/aviation maintenance jobs you are practically guaranteed steady and well paid work for the rest of your life.

It's not rocket science but to be honest, looking back, it seems amazing that I've accumulated that much just by always plugging at it and socking away into investment & RE.

Lots of fellas suggesting trading and investing in stocks but seem to forget that you don't have the disposable income to invest. Honestly fuck stocks, it's a gamble and a very long process to make it profitable even if you're being smart about it. You should only invest money you're not afraid to lose.

You don't necessarily need to make big bank, just enough to live comfortably. Learn a profession that's sought after, and you don't necessarily need a college degree for that although I suppose it does help in kickstarting your career. The exact profession really depends on the country you live in and whatever's in demand over there and of course your preferences, but be prepared to put in 300% effort into whatever you do if you decide to skip college level education.

As a man you can achieve pretty much anything you desire if you work hard enough to reach your goals. I guess this doesn't help much, but my point is, instead of looking for a cheap way out and investing in worthless shit other people tell you to, focus on raising your maket value and learn a profession that can make you indisposable, earn your worth with your brain.

The question I have here is how, why, where, and what kind of poverty are you talking here. Where do you live? Is everyone in your area poor, or just your neighborhood/city? I work in car sales in a big city. We have 20 salespeople. There are salespeople here making $3-4k a month on the verge of getting fired, several making $6-7k, most making $10k, and two making almost $20k a month average for years. In the same job at the same location. So location matters but so does mind set and skill and work ethic.

"Saved money is real money" It's only 10 bucks, it's just 5 bucks., a "couple" of drinks at a bar? Delivered pizza, all your meals out instead of making your own? If you kept track you would realize this adds up to thousands of dollars a year. REAL money. When I fully realized and put this it practice it literally changed my life. My bank account grew and I was able to buy a better car and then a house within a short time when I wasn't even making that much money. I make more money now but still look to save every chance I can.

I'm not old but:

The internet is a business waiting to happen. - Look and see what value you can add online. If you don't have anything of value to offer right now, that's okay. Build something of value and return later when you are ready.
Stock Market. There are some good dips right now and some good plays. The key to the stock market is patience and good buying opportunities. Which I would say we are in now.
Bitcoin. However, I don't know if its the best time to enter right now because we are already at all time highs.

In the meantime, get any job possible just to maintain.
