So I know this exceedingly pleasant girl. Not going to lie but I had a little bit of ONEitis over here. Beautiful, smart, funny, but also, if anything, a bit of a prude. Incredibly polite. I was friends for a couple of years but never really thought ask her out until around one week ago. I always thought she was a knock-out with few major flaws.
We'd always texted on-and-off for the past couple of years. Whenever we'd meet up I'd receive frequent IOIs. I'm a couple of years older than her, in good shape, high status position, decent SMV. Thought I had a pretty good shot. Asked her out last week.
After I did this, I noticed her behaviour immediately changed. The messages dried up a little bit but she was still down to meet. I took her out for a few drinks but couldn't get anywhere with her in spite some flirting and touching. Couldn't get close. I took her home and put it down to her being so uptight or nervous that she usually wouldn't open up on a first date. Still, the usual IOIs and good engagement I'd come to expect weren't evident.
I texted her a bit more to arrange another meet up but the messages just dried up even further. At this point I fucked up and asked her if I'd done anything to upset her (waited around 5 days before texting again to arrange a second date) or whether I was just misinterpreting her interest. I was thinking pragmatically and didn't want to waste my time with her if she wasn't interested, but sure, this was rather needless.
So she tells me she's interested to meet up as friends but nothing more. I tell her that that's fine and am thinking of moving the fuck on. I've already arranged another date with another girl. All's good. Still - I was super disappointed with this experience as she looked like a fantastic prospect. I put her on the pedestal for sure.
So I told a friend what'd happened and said it had looked like I ended up in the friendzone. He knew I was interested and he's a good dude. That's when he hit me with a bit of a bombshell.
So this dude tells me it's a good thing this didn't go anywhere. Apparently he's gotten to know this chick rather well, and she takes every opportunity she has to flirt with guys. These can be friends, colleagues or random trash on the street. They don't even have to be attractive. When she's out with friend she's always looking to engage with any random dude she finds. She gets asked out, she gets numbers, she chats to them.
Then - she drops them. She never pursues anything with them. She leads dozens and dozens of guys on and just ignores them.
I asked this dude if she sleeps around and he said absolutely not. He said he'd been approached by many guys telling him that they think this chick is interested in them, and that they're chatting to her, but many of them end up coming back to him saying she just stopped speaking to these dudes or never took anything further. She just religiously leads guys on and then drops them.
He also mentioned this bizarre episode where one of these random dudes chatting to her just up and walked away mid-conversation when they were out together and she had a mini-breakdown at the table asking her friends if there was something wrong with her, or whether she was attractive.
The icing on the cake is the fact that the only real relationship she's had in the past couple of years has been with a dude that many people suspect is gay. He acts very flamboyant and odd. She also has a reputation for flirting and acting inappropriately both while she is going out with this guy, and even in his very presence.
I have my suspicions about the psychology behind this behaviour, but I'm keeping this as objective as I can. Is this behaviour just super common in certain women? Because it was a bit of a shock to me just finding out how incredibly fucked up some chicks, who appear for all the world to be fantastic, can be.
Thank you for anybody who's read this.
