So recently I matched with a guy on online dating and he is probably the first man that I’ve matched with that I have found physically attractive enough to want to meet up with (because let’s face it, online dating is first and foremost about looks - to me it’s basically a catalogue); he was very keen to meet up, however he lives like 2 hours away and doesn’t drive! Just as a bit of background this guy is way above average looks wise, and I was concerned at first that he might be a catfish - however he added me on social media and everything checks out as normal in that department. At first I considered driving to see him for a date and he said he would call so we could make a plan. He didn’t end up messaging me until 11.30 at night, and he asked me if I was free for a call, or if it was too late, I decided that it was too late (I was awake though) so I didn’t bother taking the call, I didn’t want him to think that it was okay to call me so late on in the day. He said no worries I’ll call you tomorrow instead - he didn’t give me a time though. Halfway through the day I thought about it, and was like, I’m not gonna drive all the way to see a guy I don’t know that well and he needs to make way more effort if I was going to consider doing that because i do think it comes across a little desperate me driving all that way. So I sent him a message saying, maybe you should just come here? To which he responded saying he doesn’t drive and that’s train would take ages, which is fair it would take like 4 hours there and back. I sent another message saying maybe we could meet at a halfway point sometime, but no response. Since then he hasn’t been in touch but watches all my instagram stories.
Part of me thinks that he’s probably just not going to communicate further because it’s just too difficult to meet in person, which I don’t hold against him at all. But there is another part of me that wonders if I should’ve just driven to see him, and if I got in my own way? I do think him not driving and trying to call so late at night are red flags but then….. how do you know if someone has good or bad intentions unless you give them a chance?!
