My parents separated when I was around 12 or 13. When it happened my mother essentially stole us from my father, an action sanctioned by the law. We received a police escort and it was as though we were fleeing from a killer, despite my father having no criminal record and no history of violence. We stopped at 'safe-houses' along the way, and it was as though we were being placed in some sort of bizarre witness protection program. I was too young at the time to understand what it was all about, but what I'm discovering now is that she must have convinced the law that my dad was going to abuse or kill her if she decided to take us away. She then milked my father for child support for years. I'm thinking of confronting my mother about this, as it's something we've never talked about. Your thoughts?
