Ages ago, right when my side business was starting to take rly off and I was making serious money for the first time, some Boomer friends of my Boomer parents put me into a surprise blind date at their house. A woman roughly my age showed up. Tats, worked as a waitress and received welfare to support her two bastard children, had plenty of debt, the usual.

She wanted more dates with me. Why wouldn't she? As far as she knew, a gravy train had come through the door and she wasn't letting go unless she had to. Obviously, her affection was not reciprocated on my side.

Talked to the husband about it before dessert. "I heard that things are picking up with your business, now's the time to find a wife!" I told the husband that it's never surprising when women behave this way so I don't fault his wife. But frankly, I expect better behavior from men, I'd lost all respect for him and then told him to lose my phone number forever.

The way he reacted, you'd think I was somehow the asshole for resenting lies and wanting nothing to do with bailing out some tatted up skank with bastard children.

A lot of people have a mild level of codependence where they can't imagine ever being happy alone. They then assume nobody else can be happy alone either. So, they try pressuring their single friends into getting married or even set them up on blind dates.

And back in more normal times, their instinct was probably beneficial to society overall.

But that's not the way things are anymore.

P.S. And their "arguments" are always the same: some variations of "Who hurt you?", NAWALT and Who's going to take care of you when you're sick/old?

My “friend” is currently ramping up to having a kid with his ~~battle cow~~ wife and he keeps trying to tell me that I’ll die alone. I keep telling him there’s no guarantee his offspring will stick around in his life, but he’s already trying to make me feel like I should also have a kid. Like, fuck off Mike, you got yourself into that pit don’t try and drag me down into it so you can have some company.

Well, it's possible that they aren't being nefarious. Married people generally think being married is the way to happiness and fulfillment. So (in their mind anyway) it's possible that they are trying to do you a favor.

You gotta listen to what the husband says or doesn't say. I had a friend's wife try to bring up her single woman friend as a date prospect and my buddy just flat out asked "is she going to close up her legs with the other guys she's dating? Her ___ is like a landing strip for men. " . It was fucking hilarious.

Oh yeah. It's seemingly a monthly thing. "Man, there's a friend of [wife] that you have got to meet. Attractive, smart, has a good job..."

Me: "Kids?"

Him: "Yeah, but they're great Kids. No dad in the picture. "

Me: "No. My children are grown. I'm not raising someone else's."

Him: "I'm telling you, she's great"

Me: "Then why does she need to be set up by friends?"

I realize that I come with baggage right now, in the form of a 19 month old grandson, while his parents get their legal shit sorted out. However, im not trying to drag anyone into the mix to play granny or surrogate mom.

I date when he's with his other grandparents, or when I have a sitter. Otherwise, it's work, dinner, playtime, bath, bed, repeat.

Friends, relatives all of them have tried at one time or another. I learned to shut that down fast, but not without consequences. These people feel threatened by a happy single man and some can get quite vicious and insulting when you refuse to play their game ( generally woman are the worst). The greatest pleasure I get is being able to say I TOLD YOU SO , as their relationships disintegrate. It may be mean , but they put me through crap as well , so ya, I rub it in their faces, sorry if this offends people but too bad it feels good.

This is more examples why I will openly state that not only are most/all women trash but so are men... they would betray a brother and a friend in a heart beat over women/money/seeing others equally miserable/etc and they are jealous like women etc..........

A barman I know (divorcerd) tells me that even if sometimes it doesnt turn out well (like in his case) I should try get a gf/spouse because he feels that getting old alone is sad. He says he is ok because he has a son.
