Pull up a chair my friend.

I'm going through the same thing. All I want is to be divorced, I'm still waiting on a rely to an e-mail sent to her lawyer in March. She qualifies for legal aid and I've already spend around $8000. I'm in Alberta, Canada so things with be different depending on where you are located. I've been told the only thing I can really do is take the matter to court which will cost at least $15,000. There is a chance that I could apply for cost after the fact but that likely wont cover the complete cost and is up to judge to decide.

The only think I have in my favor is that there is about $20,000 in trust from the sale of our house that will go to her once this is over. I just hope she needs that money sooner rather than later.

Similar problem. My lawyer says if l speed things up by filing for divorce it will end up costing me more. So I wait until I can't take it anymore.

Just file and wait out the clock. That's pretty much what I had to do. The court set our date for over a year out back in December of 2019, the trial is in January of 2021. Horrible judge, horrible court. But whatever.

Filing and getting a court date starts a ticking clock, and you just need to wait for her to become aware that when the court steps in it's going to be big legal fees for both of you, and she'll likely have to pay most of hers out of any assets.

She also needs to be aware that in many states the judge will just halve the assets and the debts which depending on the personal situation it may be worse for her.

Mine finally started negotiating last month after pissing away a year not working and just spending her stipend. Now she's staring down the barrel of the court splitting everything and realized she has no credit score, can't get a mortgage, can't get an apartment because she has quite a few pets, and needs my help if she's going to get a home.

It's going to cost her some concessions that's for sure. Because at this point I'm inclined to just let the court cleave the assets and let the chips fall where they will. it'll cost her proportionally more than me.
