I have been struggling with the desire to divorce. I know it's time and nothing will change. Married almost 20 years. One teenage son. Pretty hefty house payment. Luckily wife went back to work full time a year ago. She makes about 20k a year less than me. We are in Texas so I know things are pretty standard. Her is my issue. She won't admit it but is a true alcoholic. I would love to keep the house and have her pay child support. I think it's important for son to stay in one place. Can't afford it if no child support, or would be too tight. I have evidence of her family taking her aside and confronting her drinking and have spoke openly with her family about it. A couple months ago she said I have news for you. I am not going to stop drinking! At this point you are probably wondering why I am still here. I do not want to put my son through this. financially we don't have much but good retirement even if I have to split that I guess that would be okay. It's the stories of her going crazy and me having to pay $40,000 attorney fees. There is no chance of us agreeing on anything she is impossible to talk to. My question is what are your thoughts on anything other than 50/50 and the possibility of the mother paying child support. Any evidence I have been told is just be hearsay. Thanks for the advice on here and helps just to type it out and clear my head. I am literally about to print out the form to send to the lawyer but I just can't bring myself to do it. also the thought of not having a pot to piss in when it's all over with the scaring me to death.
