r/Teenagers is one of the hottest parts of the reddit dumpster fire. Almost as hot and fiery as the racist, half-wit reddit admins that love censorship and hate American values.
lol. you're looking at American values right now buddy. The sad truth is that it is you who hates American values, because they became something shitty... but that happened a long time ago and has just kept getting worse.
lol what are you even complaining about? The values I speak of are generally pretty static. Freedom, liberty, democracy, justice, rationalism, inclusion - they don't just change at the whims of a half-wit generation that let themselves be programmed for by their social media.
Authoritarian Group-think and censorship put our values and institutions at risk.
And all of those values have been out the window for almost half a century now.
I'm all for democracy, justice, etc, but it's been a long, long time since those have been anything but slogans. America is a consumerist, individualist oligarchy, divided into multiple factions of intellectuals. We just use "our values" as a means of telling ourselves how great we are; but we don't actually enforce them.
If you're worried about the loss of "American values," you gotta know that ship sailed a while ago.
There is great irony in the word Nigger. It’s the worst word, even worse than Cunt. But black people are allowed to say it, and many do, frequently. They feel empowered by it, entitled. They’ve reclaimed something that was used to dehumanise and made it exclusive. But who really wins? Surely to end racism, we need equal rights for all. Why start that process by only allowing certain ethnicities certain language? Every time the word Nigger is bandied about by a black person, they are creating the definition of apartheid.
Yeah mate, but it's a fuckin 5 letter word used to mean mate. It's not exactly using a different water fountain or getting shot by the plod. Sorting out the use of nigga can happen after we've solved everything else.
Surely to even start to solve these problems, we must be able to talk about them?
One of the lessons from Orwell's 1984 is that controlling language is key in controlling how people think.
I think the first step is open and honest communication without fear of silence.
I understand the gravitas and association the word has, and what it represents to many people. I just think if people were to be critical about it, and give it second thought, what not being able to use it - regardless of context - represents, is much, much worse.
Nigger is the apex example don't forget. The point of this thread is that certain SJW's think that they own the words sexism and racism. It's like 1984's concept of double-speak. Doublespeak is language that deliberately obscures, disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words.
Look at the mechanism at play in all instances here: I am virtue signalling that I am not (or you are) racist/sexist by saying something racist/sexist. Where does this all lead?
Yeah I agree, controlling language is bad but nigger is a very unique word, it's derived from negro and has a very long, awful history behind it. The fact that black people have turned it into thier word is very significant. I would say currently you shouldn't go round using it (when your non black) is specifically because of this history. Because of thier use of it the word has effectively been disarmed, meaning when actual racists start dropping hard rs the impact has been diminished, also it's quite a good way to stick it to the slave owners of old. So I don't use it out of respect for this history. But I don't think anyone should be punished for using it. Of course you're free to disagree.
It's a hight hypocritical denial of rights that systematically leads to an inability to discuss our human differences. Exactly the same as what's going on with the meaning of the term sexism. Whether its the word itself or it's meaning, the concept is being deliberately warped.
I mean go ahead and say the word in front of black people if you want. Clearly, you like to write it down here. Make a post as well when your face is beaten to pulp though. Would like to see the video.
If I have no intention to insult or demean a black person, and I use the word in a context where say, we were just discussing the word, do you beleive that the morally justified outcome is violence towards me?
These people who say that create a definition of sexism that specifically excludes men, by definition. They will recognize it as discrimination but not 'sexism'. Therefore, intention based on denigrating a man for his gender is irrelevant by definition, but not for women.
It is wordgames, designed to marginalize men when sexism happens by saying 'it's not sexism'. And that's all they say. The unspoken corollary is 'therefore it's OK, hahaha". And that why the definition marginalizes men
When you create a system that discriminates, in this case using definitions, you create a system which systemically discriminates. And there's nothing more sexist than that.

Though it is kinda racist that because you were born into a group of people you have an ok to say that but if you are born in the other you can’t

what does this have to do with that word, it really has more to do with racism against whites than blacks

Because it also says "...or men can't be victims of sexism"
Read the whole thing before you rant
