The women's team was offered the exact pay scheme of the males and they turned it down. Why? Because they get benefits the males don't.

They get paid a certain amount regardless of the games they get paid. Males get paid only when they play.
The women negotiated more players on the team than the men so there are more players getting a piece of that guaranteed pie.
The women have healthcare and daycare free whereas the males don't There are several benefits I forgot that the women have negotiated into their contact the makes don't.

So when soccer said ok we'll pay you the same as the males but it is the exact same contact the females said no, we want to keep our benefits and receive higher pay. Thisb package would have been better than the males and was not equal so soccer said no we are offering you the exact same pay scale contact and women's soccer turned it down. They women in women's soccer sued, they want their cake and eat it too. That's the real reason they make less, there are more financial benefits in women's soccer.

The issue with equal pay is that no female footballer is amongst the best 10.000 football players in the world. Its a painful truth. I don't think i need to retell the story of the college boys. The athletic difference between men and women is extremely evident in professional sports, and football is no exception. Anyone who has watched womens football knows that the matches are not even third division level.

This isn't really even a gender issue, it's basic economics. People often compare the salaries of teachers vs professional athletes. While I agree many teachers should earn more than they do, Ms Davis the art teacher isn't generating $90M per year for the district.

We can debate the merits of capitalism, but let's not make this another "women don't get paid enough" issue.

I saw a video on this where the women's team agreed to higher guaranteed income and a smaller amount of the revenue while the men's team chose a lower guaranteed income with a higher percentage of the revenue.

Of course, after the season was over they complained about discrimination - rather than accepting the outcome of the choice they made.

Also, it did not stop the league from publicly doubling down on the idea that they should pay the women more than men even though they generate less money for the organization. Awesome.

Real question. If we relate this to a job at a company. If I work at a company and they do well should you get paid more? I think that is true as positions at bigger more profitable companies usually compensate better. Now by standard you could say that is not equal pay if my company pays less then another, but I have the choice to move to another company if I want to get paid more. Of course that does not mean I can get hired there but I have the ability to.

To relate it to soccer can a women try out for the men's league and vice versa? If that is the case that they can play on a man's team they could earn as much. I don't think it is fair for them to say they should get paid the same when the overall numbers aren't the same.

I can go to my boss and say "company X pays there people this much and I want that". My boss can come back and say "we are not as profitable as company X but feel free to go work there if you want that pay".

Actually, this is a really interesting sports compensation question. The two teams are compensated completely differently because A) they’ve negotiated for it and B) the structures of international play are different.

The qualifiers are different, the roster movement is different, the benefits are different, the salaries are different. People act like it’s apples to apples and it just isn’t.

It’s a fascinating thing to dive into if you like sports.

A lot of young women will be too busy developing and smashing goals to get the daily dose of patriarchal horseshit, like being paid less in actual fiat, than the males get. And that's probably the greatest victory, which you clowns are so ready to declare "yay equality" while still paying women less. So fuck off, you absolute clowns.
